Leftover Thursday

We tried a new technique for our garden this year in the hopes of cutting down on the weeds. Normally I give up around the end of July and let the weeds take over the garden because no matter how much time we spend weeding it it just gets out of control. This method took a lot more time up front, but I'm hoping it will work out well on the back end. I think it took about six hours to plant the garden this way...laying down the landscape cloth, securing it, cutting all the holes, and then planting the seeds. Peanut helped almost the entire time! My nature girl!

Fingers crossed it works!

Speaking of Peanut the nature girl...she has made a home in the carigana with different rooms and things and spends a lot time in there! I think this is her bed...or maybe a chair...or table? Haha, I don't know.

Lou made this in Sunday School. So sweet.

The little ones got to spend the night at Noni's. Abbie looks thrilled. Haha!

Buddy is so funny. He doesn't usually go inside his rock, but one night he slept in there and then poked his head out when we turned on his light the next morning.

School's Out!

We are so happy it is summer break! The girls did a great job with their schoolwork this year, but it's always nice to have a break!

Peaches and I had a very relaxed schedule. She is reading really well so I didn't have to push lessons. We usually only spent 20-30 minutes a day doing a little math lesson and an ELA lesson.

Lou almost always sat with us. Sometimes paying attention, but usually just playing next to us.

I used the Kindergarten Common Core I purchased years ago so I know we hit all the objectives she needed.

Ta da!

Here is one of our last lessons of the year on 2D and 3D shapes.

Peaches is really looking forward to 1st grade with a "real" teacher next year!

Peanut had an easier year...I'm not really sure why.  The online school system we use has changed SO much since I started with Bug nine years ago! Back then we had 6-7 subjects a day and a very large lesson schedule, BUT we could do it whenever we wanted and take days off as long as we got our work done. This year Peanut had 3-4 subjects a day (sometimes only 2!) but we had to ask special permission to miss a day and there was very little flexibility. She had a good year though and enjoyed the bit of a break. I told her next year probably won't be so easy, but she has one more year before she hits the dreaded middle school where the work load explodes. :P

Peanut's teacher had them create avatars and then made a "class picture" out of them. So cute!

Boo did an amazing job on her schoolwork this year! She is in middle school and worked hard for 6-8 hours a day with very few breaks to get all her work done. Some days she hardly took time to eat her meals. I don't know how parents with less motivated students do it. Thankfully, for me, Boo is super self-motivated and accepts nothing less than an A. She is very focused on her work and drives herself with what needs to be done. She is super responsible and of course pulled straight A's. We are very proud of her work ethic and dedication! Way to go Boo!

Summer here we come!!

Roller Skating!

Bug's school had an end of year roller skating party! I was able to take all the girls and they had a wonderful time! I think this was Boo and Peaches first time roller skating at a rink. Bug and Peanut went to a birthday party last year. We got to skate for two hours. The big girls got the hang of it right away and zoomed around the rink and hung out with their friends.

It took Peaches a little longer to get the hang of it but after about thirty minutes or so she was able to stay on her feet for a full lap and go faster than a walk. Haha. :)

She had fun with her friend A!

It was very tiring for her so she would do a couple laps and then take a break. She fell probably twenty times, but no major owies...just some blisters. One of the times she fell I was already past her so I tried to turn around and go back to help her and ended up falling myself...right in front of the 10% section of the rink where a group of parents was sitting. :P I got a pretty good bruise from it too. Ugh. But she had a lot of fun and did a good job persevering in this new skill!

Bug worked on lots of tricks like skating backwards, crossing one foot over the other, and doing little hops.

I didn't see too much of Boo because she was busy hanging out with her friends.

These girls have so much fun together!

Peanut did the limbo and made it five or six rounds!

Besties!

The last few minutes of our session was spent having the kids race in their age groups. Peanut raced.

And Bug got third.

Boo's ankles were hurting so she opted out.

What a fun day!

Mr. Fix It

It seems like we are finally getting a handle on the Farmhouse. After six and half years of owning it we are almost completely finished with the inside, and have spent the last few months working on the outside...just in time to have things start breaking. :P

One night I thought the girls spilled some water by the floor by the kitchen sink. I cleaned it up, but then the next night the exact same puddle appeared and I realized maybe the sink was leaking...sure enough it was. This faucet came with the house so while it wasn't my favorite we used it because it was free. Faucets are crazy expensive but somehow T found one on Amazon for $60 that I really liked! It came a few days later and he installed it without a single problem. As Lou always says when something breaks, "Daddy fix it!"

About a week after the faucet I was doing laundry when I noticed the clothes weren't getting dry. I had already done two loads...putting the second load in with the first to dry because sometimes that happens, and I just pile on more wet clothes and run it for longer. Haha.

Unfortunately it didn't occur to me until two loads later that maybe there was a problem...so I had FOUR loads of laundry to dry and a dryer that wasn't working. I ended up laying clothes out all over the house trying to get them dry. :P

T took the dryer apart when he got home that evening, deduced that the heating element burned out, and got a new one ordered.

Thankfully it came a few days later and again, he was able to install the new item without any problems...and eventually all that laundry dried and we were able to take our house back. Haha.

We are so thankful for our very own Mr. Fix It!

Leftover Thursday

One day Peaches told me she made a store, and I had to use "REAL" money to buy the things because she was saving up to buy something on Amazon. Haha.

They call this a "sister backpack". Haha.

I heard Lou rustling around in the pantry and asked what she was doing. She came out pushing her little cart and said, "Shopping."

Chips, popcorn, and cereal. :)

And then she stole my boots.

Happy Thursday! :)
