Game Night

We have two things we like to do on the weekends (if we’re home…which seems rarer than it should be!)…pizza/movie night and game night.

Peanut is at that awkward stage where she REALLY wants to be a part of the game, but she’s not quite old enough to understand and play most of them.

Zingo is about as good as it gets for her. She understands that you grab the tiles and she knows how to match them up on her card, but she usually ends up right in the middle of everyone, knocking cards and tiles askew until the older two get frustrated with her. :)

And somehow by the end of most evenings she winds up walking around without pants. :P

Usually the girls stay focused on our game for half an hour or so until they dissolve into giggling, wrestling hooligans. Then it’s up to Daddy to keep them entertained!

Cavity Free!

7 years and we have yet to have a cavity! I’m really hoping we can keep up this record! Especially since I have weak teeth and was always getting cavities as a kid. That’s probably the main reason I am such a stickler on no juice and no pop for the girls, and so far it is paying off!

The girls continue to LOVE going to the dentist…unlike their mother. Maybe if I had cool toys to play with I would enjoy it too! :)

Bug and Boo both got x-rays and did great. I was worried Boo would wiggle but she sat stock still.

Peanut was the wiggle worm! She sat still only for admiring herself. :)

Cutie Boo hopped right up into the chair and showed her how it was done.

When it was Peanut’s turn she happily climbed up into the chair and started checking things out.

She was so excited to be one of the big girls!

Yay! 

That lasted right up to the second her chair started going back and we tried to get her to lay down. Then she was DONE! But Buggy came and picked her up and they were able to clean her front teeth at least.

And check the side ones as well.

But then when Dr. J came out to look over all their teeth she was petrified. He quickly looked in her mouth while she screamed in his face, but I remember Boo doing the same thing at this age so I think she’ll improve next time around.

And as long as we are cavity free she can scream all she wants! :)

May 2nd

S (coming into the kitchen): “What are we having for dinner Ma-ma?” Before I can even answer she looks around. “YASAGNA?!? Yum! My fav-rit!”

May 6th

Grandma was over and the girls dropped some beads that K had gotten for her birthday. Grandma said, “Those little boogers are hard to keep track of!” S looks confused, “They’re not boogers! They’re beads!”

May 20th

K’s vocab lesson asks, “Miguel’s family plays a game in which they kick a ball into a large net at the end of the field.” K answers wrong twice before Boo (coloring quietly at the counter, but apparently paying attention) yells, “It’s SOCCER!”

June 1st

After golfing for the first time with Daddy and K I aksed her, “How’d you do?”  “Great!” she responded, “I hit the ball WEALLY far! Like 5 miles!”

June 3rd

It was raining and S ran outside, barefoot, in her pajamas.  I middle named her, “Get back in here!”  She waltzed back in with the most teenagerish-attitude-filled voice I’ve ever heard out of her, “But Ma-ma. You know the cold never bothered me anyway.”

Tie-Dye Party!

The girls got to go to a really fun party the other day! My friend K is very creative and went for a tie-dye theme.

First up was jumping on the trampoline. When we first arrived all the little girls climbed in, but a 3-people-at-a-time rule was shortly instated. :)

And since it was a tie-dye party what better way to have fun then to make your own tie-dye shirt!

They had squirt bottles which made it very easy for the kids to do themselves.  They got to pick their style and colors and go for it!

Bug chose the scrunched look and Boo chose the lined.

After everyone got their shirts made we went inside to have cake and ice cream. Happy birthday to you…

And presents! The girls were so excited for her to open their present!

There was also a guess-the-number-of-skittles game and Bug WON! She was SO happy! We’re already down to the yellow layer.

By the time the party was over the shirts were done and they got to try them on.  They all loved their shirts and it was fun to see how differently they turned out!

The Puppet Show

Date Night and a Wedding

T and I had quite the exciting date night last weekend! We had to go to a certain restaurant to get a gift card so we figured we’d just go ahead and eat there.  It was only a 25 minute wait which was great for this place…usually it’s at least 45.

So we waited…for 35 minutes. We were finally seated and placed our orders pretty quickly. We got our soup (for T) and salad (for me) and our garlic bread (yum) and had just finished it when we saw waiters and waitresses going around to each table.  About a minute later the manager walked into our section and loudly informed everyone that there was a small electrical fire and we needed to exit the building immediately.

I felt bad for the people sitting next to us that had just gotten their delicious-looking food.  A older gentlemen walked to the door with his bowl spooning his pasta into his mouth.  And the couple behind us who were attempting to have a date night with a one year old in tow grabbed their wine glasses before walking out! Haha :)

There weren’t any actual flames, but we were let out of the back of the building right where the “small electrical fire” was. When the firefighter opened the door to this little addition smoke came pouring out, but he quickly handled it.

I was impressed with the cities fire department. By the time we got outside they were pulling into the parking lot and apparently they are VERY vigilant with fires because SEVEN big hook and ladder trucks arrived, along with three ambulance-sized fire vehicles, and a few police cars.  They weren’t taking any chances!

We figured we weren’t going to get back in and enjoy our dinner so we walked around the building to the front. 

They were really nice and gave us a voucher for free entrees, and as a bonus we got salad and soup for free. Haha :) We went ahead and did our errands and then later got mozzarella sticks from Sonic and Froyo for dessert.

It definitely made for an interesting date night!

The next morning Noni, K, S, and I got to attend one of the sweetest weddings I’ve been to! We are friends of the bride who was marrying her high school sweetheart!  They had dated through high school and then went their separate ways because of a misunderstanding.  They married other people, had children, and lived their lives apart.

He was widowed years ago (maybe 6?) and she became a widow within the last year.  A friend (I think the woman there on the left) reintroduced them and it was love at second sight. :) In our friend’s vows she said something about them being each other’s first and last love. So sweet!

We are so happy for them!

New Glasses

Boo’s new glasses have arrived! Since she was almost due for her yearly checkup we just went in early to have it done and get the new ones.  I can’t believe it’s been less than a year since she first got them!  It seems like she’s had them forever!

She did really well for the first 30 min. The assistant (one of her friend’s mom) put her through several tests.

And then Dr. N came in and gave her a bunch more.

She got REALLY squirmy after being there almost an hour and wouldn’t stay in her seat so she finally just got to leave. They said we’ll try again in a few weeks with her new glasses.  Haha :)

And here’s a close up of the side. She was really excited about the purple and the flowers. For some reason both times we went in it was a dance day so she was in leotards both times.  They all thought it was cute. :)

The new glasses have a warranty for 2 years that if you break them, in ANY way, you can replace them for $18.  I’m hoping we don’t need to use it but I’m not holding my breath!

Goodbye Lottie

Well, I am sad to report that our little Lottie Lou is no longer with us.  We had her for almost a year which is much better than we did with Herbie. 

Lottie was mischievous and fun, and REALLY good at playing hide-and-seek, with the aid of her main accomplice, Peanut.

One day I noticed that her stomach was looking kind of distended, and that night after the girls went to bed, T and I checked on her.  She was breathing very sporadically and not responsive.  We probably should have put her out of her misery but neither of us had the heart.  By the time we woke up the next morning she was gone.  She either ate something on one of her weekly field trips or (according to one of my friends who raises bunnies, guinea pigs, etc.) she had a blocked bowel from a hairball. 

The girls were not nearly as traumatized…maybe they are getting used to the circle of life after Herbie and Izzy?  Or perhaps it was because T had Lottie boxed up and told them the news, rather than them finding her as they did with Herbie.  I still remember that awful feeling of reaching into my hamster’s cage and touching a rock hard body…I was probably 10.  *Shudder*

Either way I’m glad it wasn’t as hard for them this time.

We took her out to Noni and Papa’s and gave her a proper burial.  The girls wrote on her box before the “funeral”.

Then Noni drove them out to the pet cemetery.

Peanut wasn’t too shook up about it and was making us laugh.

Cocoa was probably terrified to realize that this is the track record her family has with pets!

Most of the sheep ignored us after realizing we didn’t have any treats.

Except for one brave girl who came right up to be petted.

Daddy dug the hole and put the box in with a final farewell from the girls.  Then they found a few rocks to put over the grave.

Goodbye Lottie, we will miss you and your wiley ways.

We have no plans to get another hamster any time soon.  We gave it a valiant effort, but I think the girls have learned enough about the circle of life for now.  Maybe when they are older and able to be more responsible with a pet, we’ll try again.
