A couple of weekends ago we got to go on the Youth Group Ski-Campout. Now Jr. High/High School is not "my" age group by any stretch so I was surprised at how much I enjoyed myself! This was such an amazing group of tween/teenagers! They were so respectful and polite and they had a weekend full of good old clean fun!
Since I'd rather much rather keep busy than sit around with nothing to do I offered to do the food. The little pavilion has one outlet so I planned all my meals around crockpots and griddles. We are in the midst of high fire danger so we weren't allowed to have campfires. Everything worked out great though as I was able to do almost all the preparations at home so it was pretty much just re-heating things. I bought a box of those crockpot liners and it was super handy to just pop one in to reheat. Plus I was able to just pull up the bag and twist it closed with any leftovers.
I think Peaches had more fun camping than anyone! She toddled all over the campground playing with sticks, leaves, and bark shavings. Can you spot her?
We went through 5 watermelons!
It was really hot and smokey the first day but thankfully it didn't smell too bad.

Thank goodness for Noni! If she hadn't been there Peaches would have been miserable being strapped to my back or the highchair while I did meal prep. Noni took care of her and let her run all over and she was SO happy!
We had devotions in the mornings and evenings. I was putting Peaches to bed so I missed this but I guess Boo got to help with the song time. :)
Pastor S came out and did the Friday night devotion.
We had "banana boats" for dessert the first night.
Since we couldn't have campfires the kids stayed up late playing some board games I had brought.
Saturday after breakfast and devotions the kids headed for the water. They only came out for meals but otherwise spent 10 hours in the water!!!
It was quite a bit cooler than Friday but that didn't stop the water bugs! They tubed and skied and surfed all day!

I have no idea what she was doing but I thought it was hilarious. She looked like a hairdresser.
"Oh huuuny we have got to do something about these roots!"
"Is that a gray hair? Don't you worry darlin' we'll take care of that!"

After naptime Peaches wanted in the water so I put on her swimsuit and she happily played in the sand and on the shoreline.
Next year we need to stay a little longer because the kids were sad to have to be done for the day! The only complaint I heard out of anyone the whole weekend was that it needs to be one day longer!
Noni and Miss S made us all breakfast the next morning, and then we heard a talk from Mr. J who is going to be taking over the youth group. He and his wife make an awesome team and are SO good with the kids. I am really excited that they are stepping into the position and looking forward to our years in youth group!
Speaking of which...when I told our worship team leader I would be out this weekend he said, "Wow! You guys are already in youth group?" to which I quickly replied, "Oh no! We have several more years before K is in youth group!" Later I started thinking about the fact that they allow kids to start youth group in 6th grade (because 6-8th is middle school here) and I realized that K can start youth group NEXT YEAR! Wow. How did that happen?!?

We didn't let them go out in the boats on Sunday but almost all the kids went swimming even though it was only 70 degrees!
