Covid finally caught up with us. After a year of trying to avoid it, and finally feeling like things were getting back to normal it snuck in and grabbed us. The youth group had a progressive dinner event and Boo was invited to her friend's house to help their family prepare food for the dinner (as they were one of the stops). She spent six hours there and had a wonderful time. She learned how to make lumpia, a traditional Philippino egg roll that we love! The youth group had a great time at the event!
The unfortunate part came 48 hours later when the mom of the family let me know that she had tested positive for Covid that day. She thought she'd been having her regular allergies so there wasn't any way to determine a timeline of symptoms for her. Boo had to be quarantined for 7 days and then tested. We debated the options, but decided that we would just let her mix in with the rest of us and quarantine as a family. Thankfully T didn't have to quarantine because he was fully vaccinated by that point so he was able to go to work and make runs to the grocery store.
We were able to get her tested 8 days later (the weekend prevented the 7 days) and so we left the house for the first time in over a week to head up to the hospital parking lot where they came out to test her. She did great and said it didn't hurt at all. She had been feeling totally fine so we were completely shocked when her test came back positive! That same day she started getting a runny nose and by that evening she had completely lost smell! I put some super strong essential oils on her and it made her eyes water but she said she couldn't smell it at all! So weird! That lasted 48 hours and then she started to get her smell back and her runny nose went away. That was it. No other symptoms. We were very thankful!
The rest of us got tested the day after Boo did. She had been tested by the hospital lab and all they did was swipe around her nostrils with a q-tip looking thing. We got ours scheduled with the clinic and they had what looked like a tiny bottle brush on the end of a stick. It definitely did not feel good! It tickled and hurt so much our eyes watered, and we all had a headache afterwards. Lou yelled "OUCH!" when they did it to her, turned and sneezed right in my face. Then she turned to the nurse and stuck her tongue out at her and blew a sherbert. Not great manners. Lol.
I can't remember what Peaches said after hers but it must have been funny. I snapped this picture right after. She saw the picture later and said, "NO!! Is that when we got our test?! I thought that was gonna be ouchy and it WAS!"
I was kind of hoping that all of us would test positive and have an easy time of it like Boo did, but we all tested negative. That was good and bad. Good that we didn't have it, but that meant that we had to wait until Boo had gone through her 10 days of quarantine, and then we had to wait an additional 7 days and then the rest of us had to be tested again.
We started feeling cooped up so a few times we went for a drive. One time Noni and Papa sweetly brought us Sonic drinks to brighten our day! It was Lou's first slushie and she loved it!
We played lots of board games. Lou took this. :)
And we worked on the house whenever Daddy was home. We were eating breakfast one morning when he started working and was getting pretty loud.
Another Saturday my friend E brought us a new game and hot chocolates! So sweet! The girls loved them.
Lou so much so that she drank all hers and went and found someone's unfinished one and drank it too. Haha.
The girls had sleepovers on the weekends. Usually they do two and two since they moved upstairs, but this night they all crammed in Peanut's room. I thought it was funny that we built them this huge house, and they all squeezed in the one room. The couch is way too small for Bug but she slept on it.
Peanut was in her bed, and Peaches was on the floor under the puzzle table.
And Boo was in the closet. Haha.
We were back to online church, but thankfully that's commonplace for us now.
But the best part of quarantine was Geoffrey. Which is what they named their tree house - fort. They literally spent about 8 hours in it one Saturday. They made a rope ladder and a swing, and climbed the tree a dozen times each!
Grandpa and Grandma's church was upgrading their pews and he was able to get us some of their old (but much nicer than ours) pews for our soon-to-be remodeled sanctuary so one Sunday a bunch of the men from church went and got them. There was no where to store them so we offered the Grange. We couldn't get close to the moving crew but the girls sat in the grass 30 feet away and watched them unload them all. It was some of only people they had seen in weeks. Haha.
Once they left they went in and climbed all over them to test them out. :P
Since Boo's symptoms came the evening of the day she had been tested we knew she must have been positive for a few days so our doctor let us test two days early. Daddy made sure to get us lab tests and the q-tip test was MUCH better! We all tested negative! Freedom! And with only hours to spare so that we were able to go to the Awana awards ceremony that night. I still feel sad that we missed the last three weeks of Awana, but I was really thankful that we got to be there for awards.
The three big girls all missed the first 3 weeks of their 6 weeks-Spring sports (basketball for Boo and volleyball for Peanut and Bug), but we were glad they at least got a few weeks. The girls all did very well in our 23 days of quarantine, and Boo said she didn't mind staying home at all. Bug missed her friends a lot, but she was able to zoom, and email with them so that helped. All in all it wasn't bad at all...but I'm very glad it's over!!!
