Princess Party

A couple of weeks ago the girls were invited to a birthday party.  The invitation said they were welcome to dress up so K picked out one of her outfits and we got all fancied up for the princess party.  It was so cute to walk in and see all the little princesses running around.

We played “pin the crown on the princess”.

Boo was being her usual clingy-in-public self.  She was NOT happy when I tried to put a birthday hat on her!

They played a few games and then we did a pull-string piñata.  Those things are brilliant!  No more whacking each other with a stick, you just pull the ribbons until the bottom caves in (or I should say out) and spills all the candy to the floor.

I thought the cake was adorable!  We now have a bakery in town and they do cakes.  This was the first time I had eaten one of them and it was delicious as well as cute. :)

Ty

This has been one of the hardest weeks of my life.  To suddenly lose someone so young is so very hard.  It’s not only your own hurt but watching the people you love in such pain that is so difficult. 

I was so glad that T, Papa, and Mama were able to watch the girls so my mom and I could go to Texas and be with our family.  Being together made all the difference. 

Thank you so much for the prayers.  We appreciate it more than we can say.  God definitely gave us His peace.  My Aunt said she could feel His strength keeping her going when she wasn’t able to do it herself. 

The funeral service was beautiful and a celebration of Ty’s life.  Every song, every story, every picture, and every scripture was perfectly put together in memory of him.  We were able to rejoice through our tears, knowing that Ty is in a better place.  He understood that Jesus died for him and he had accepted that gift of life, so we know exactly where he is today.

Ty was such a joyful child.  He was always laughing and always making other people laugh.  Now we can have joy in the knowledge that he is in heaven where there is no pain and he can laugh with that child-like joy once again.

This is me, Sean, and Ty when we were about 5, 3, and 1. My cousins and I have always been more like siblings. We are very close. I regret that Ty and I had grown apart in the last few years, but I am so thankful for all the fun memories I have of him.

Trust

I won’t be posting at all this week.  We have had several family emergencies in the past 8 days. 

My mother-in-law had a massive stroke (she is actually doing amazingly well and is already home from the hospital but has several months of therapy ahead). 

Yesterday morning my cousin passed away and my mom and I are headed to Texas today.  My heart is breaking for his mom and his brother.  Prayers for the family would be much appreciated.

The other thing is that my 2nd cousin’s little boy (same age as Bug) is in the hospital on life support.  I’m not sure of all the details but there are some problems with his heart. The little boy’s name is Max and he could also use any prayers you could send his way.

We are trusting God in this time of sorrow, and I can definitely see how His hand has been moving in each situation.  He is giving us His peace which passes all comprehension. 

I will be back Saturday.   

Where A Kid Can Be A Kid

On Saturday the girls were invited to a birthday party at one of K’s favorite places, Chuck E Cheese!

They had a blast doing almost every single ride/game.  I thought this princess carriage was pretty cute.

This was bowling…or maybe it was modeling.

This little stinker only got to enjoy about half of the party because she decided she was going to throw a huge fit.  Thankfully Noni was there (there was no way I was taking two kids to Chuck E Cheese on a Saturday by myself!) and took her to the car for a while. 

She has really been giving us a run for our money over the past few weeks. Practicing for the terrible two’s?  I’m hoping it’s just a phase.  We are trying to be very firm with her to “nip it in the bud”.  Hopefully it doesn’t take her too long to figure out who’s the boss around here. :)

I thought this was hilarious…a Dance Dance Revolution game for preschoolers.  It had all these nursery rhyme songs but they were totally jazzed up.  Mary and her little lamb were flying through space rockin’ out to a disco beat.  Too funny.

Ballet Shoes

Ever since K started dance class Boo has been obsessed with her “balley sooes”.  So when I got her some new black patent church shoes she instantly got excited and said, “balley? balley?”  She has also started spinning in circles until she is dizzy.  When I got this video she had already been spinning for quite a while. :)  I love how she looks down and realizes she is not wearing them.

House Wrap and Windows!

Another weekend in the books.  This weekend the guys finished off all the soffits and facia!  Yippee! 

They also got the house wrap on the new dormers while Grandma and I ripped out the old carpet and threw it out the holes before they put in the windows!

Lost Art Form

For some reason the thought of chalk never once occurred to me this summer!  You’d think it would have since I have been trying to think of ways to occupy the girls while we work on the house, but it didn’t even cross my mind.

Until…last weekend when K started making a hopscotch out of scrap wood blocks.  I went downstairs and grabbed a bag of chalk that I’d bought a long time ago.

The loved it!  They did it off and on for over two hours.

“BOO!”  No, Boo Bear, that would be green.  Every color is blue right now.  We are working on that. :)

“Ding ding!” (her word for air-plane, not sure where it came from)

Look at this hair!  It doesn’t matter if I fix it all up in the morning or don’t take a brush to it for days, somehow it always ends up looking like this by mid-afternoon.  Drives me CRAZY. :P  Good thing she’s got a cute smile to distract people from it. :)

I wrote out a little sequence for her to practice her ballet.

Going to the Dentist

On Tuesday it was time for K’s 6 month checkup so I decided to go ahead and have S seen as well.  I wasn’t too sure how she would do since she doesn’t like going to the doctor.  She loved it at first since they have a pretty neat playroom with a special door for little ones.

K was actually more nervous than I anticipated.  The last time we were there she didn’t have an ounce of hesitation. This time she was scared and had to have me right next to her at all times.  She did warm up eventually and she did do everything the hygienist asked her to.

Boo sat in the chair for all of five seconds.

She was not happy at first and kind of clamped her lips shut, but these people are experts and the lady was actually able to get her to enjoy it.  She laughed when “Mr. Thirsty” “kissed” her and smiled when the toothbrush “tickled” her teeth. 

And she LOVED the “squirt gun”!  She kept saying “more? more?”

The dentist came and checked them both out and said they look great!  K had x-rays done and doesn’t have any cavities.  We need to do a better job of flossing and brushing in the morning (we usually only brush at night).  I think the reason she doesn’t have any cavities is because she doesn’t ever get juice or pop.

The dentist is also not worried about her re-broken tooth. He said it looks fine and unless it starts bothering her we are going to leave it alone. 

S didn’t do as well when he checked her teeth.  She started screaming and crying, but I guess they are used to it because it didn’t phase them.  He’s happy with her “good spaces” as he called them.  He said it’s a lot easier to stay cavity free when there is room between each tooth.

K got to put stickers up for the two of them on the Cavity-Free wall.

And they both got balloons.

All in all they did pretty well.  Definitely not as good as last time, but it’s done now and we don’t have to go for another six months. :)
