If It Ain't Broke Don't Fix It

But if it IS broke...go see the pediatric dentist. Yep, BOTH of her front teeth are broken! I feel SO terrible. I swear she did not even fall that hard. We took her in this morning to our dentist and had an xray taken. Both of her front teeth are fractured above the gum line. The good news is that if they don't get an abscess they will just sit in there until it is time for them to fall out. The bad news is that it is pretty common to get an abscess (infection) on something like this and that could mean root canals or even pulling them both out. I really hope they don't have to come out. She'd be toothless until the big teeth decided to grow in, which could be awhile! Ugh.

The pediatric dentist that we were referred to is on vacation so we'll be headed in to see him next week. I'm really hoping he can do something for her. Poor baby. Other good news is that they don't seem to be bothering her at all. She has said they hurt a few times, but I don't think they are hurting much at all. She is eating just fine, including wanting an apple. This is giving us the push we needed to get her to stop sucking her thumb.

I am just so afraid she is going to fall again and break them out completely. She is SO accident prone. She hurts herself multiple times a day. When we were at the water park she also fell and bruised both her knees and then later that day when we were eating she fell out of her chair and hit her head on the table and then later fell again when we were at Applebees with Grandma and Grandpa. If we make it to adulthood with all her teeth in her head we will have a miracle on our hands!

Here's a picture of the poor thing. You can see how the gums above the right tooth are all bruised, and the underside of her lip is purple and cut as well.

Oh goodness. I don't know what to do with this child! I need to go buy a few rolls of bubble wrap! I'd like to say this will teach her a lesson to be more careful, but I already know that's not going to happen! We're going to try to get into the dentist next Tuesday so I'll post another tooth update after that. At least she safe for now...she's napping. As soon as she gets up there are no guarantees.

Happy Birthdays

Well we had a successful birthday weekend! For the most part. We wanted to try something new and fun for T's birthday so we ended up going to an indoor water park! It was a lot of fun except that it was a little cold. It was warm inside but the water was just a little too chilly. We ended up only staying for 2 hours and Bug's teeth were chattering almost the entire time.

We also had an incident. We didn't even make it out of the locker room before having a catastrophe. We were there literally five minutes and had just got changed when Bug slipped and fell in the locker room. She kind of fell on the side of her face and even though she got a big fat lip I didn't think she hurt herself that bad. Later though, we realized that her front right tooth had some blood around it and the gums were starting to turn purple. We showed it to the dentist at church this morning and it's not looking very positive. I'll be taking her in tomorrow so we'll know more after that. We're praying that it's not permanently damaged.

Anyway, back to the birthday fun...the water park had a kids area with a 50 gallon bucket that dumped out every now and then. Boo and I were underneath it and I thought that the water would just go around the platform we were under, but apparently 50 gallons has a lot of force and we both got soaked! She didn't really care for that. :)

"Brr Daddy, it's cold!"

Our favorite thing ended up being the hot tub. :) We put Boo on the edge and let her put her feet in. She loved it! She giggled and splashed happily. You could go under this little door in the hot tub and it connected to an outdoor hot tub in the snow. T and I took turns doing a few of the big slides. They were pretty fun!

After we were done we got dressed and went into the arcade part of the place. T and K played a few of the games.

After that we left and headed to Target where we ate lunch...yeah I know kind of a weird place to eat but that's one of our fun family things that we do. They actually have really good food for great prices and we like to grab a whole bunch of different stuff and then browse around the store together. We always find good deals to take home. :)

Then we headed to a contractor's store and picked a color for our new roof...very birthdayish I know. :) We mostly did it b/c both girls fell asleep in the car and we wanted to give them a few extra minutes. Toys R Us was our next stop where we bought a few Legos for Daddy and K to play with together, and then we met Grandma and Grandpa at Applebees for dinner. It was a fun day!

Today after church we went out to lunch with Noni and Papa and let the guys open all their presents...or rather the girls opened all their presents for them. :)

We haven't given Daddy our present b/c it didn't come in time. He'll be getting it on Tuesday.

Jill

Buggy got to feed a little calf this afternoon! She is only four days old and her name is Jill. What a cutie. She is solid black and all fluffy and frisky. Bug loved her!

Our good friends have cows and a first time mama had twins. They named them Jack and Jill but the mama only took Jack so Jill is living in the barn and being bottle fed right now.

She downed that bottle with impressive speed!

One more hug for Jill and then we hightailed it to the house to get warm. It's still freezing outside, especially with the wind. The thermometer says -4 right now.

Anyway, we'll be busy celebrating T's birthday tomorrow and Papa's the next day so I'm sure I'll have lots of fun pics to share at the end of the weekend! See you then!

Snowed In

Wow, sorry I have posted in nearly a week! We were going and doing throughout the three day weekend, then we had bible study on Tuesday night so we've just been kind of busy. Then yesterday we drove into town to take T to the airport. I had heard there was supposed to be snow, but I was unprepared for the amount! We went into a store with a few tiny flakes just starting to fall and came out 30 minutes later to this...

We were supposed to go to my mom's house to pick her up and then we were all going to head back to our own little town for Awana, but the snow kept coming and coming and the wind was picking up. My mom called the director and they decided to cancel Awana so we didn't need to go home for that. We ended up staying the night at my parents even though we had no clothes...or more importantly my saline solution and glasses. :)

Thankfully I had just happen to have bought the girls pajamas at the store so they had something to wear to bed and my mom keeps a supply of diapers/pullups/etc. for them and has a pack and play for S to sleep in when we are there.

We ended up getting about 6 inches by dark so we decided to make some snow ice cream for K.

Yay!

I put in the sugar, vanilla, and milk and she stirred.

Ta Da! After she took a bite she said, "Uh...I don't really like it." I don't think I put enough sugar in. :)

We watched the weather and there was a blizzard warning since there were gusts up to 35 mph. We went to bed expecting to wake up to some more snow. This was my car this morning...my mom had cleared it off completely the night before, after the 5 or 6 inches we'd already had, so this was all fresh.

T said he heard that one place got 26 inches in 24 hours though so I should be thankful that we only got about 15! Definitely some crazy weather! I'm kind of glad we got the snow though b/c, as my mom pointed out, it's probably the only thing that saved our plants. After all this "warm" weather we were all thinking spring, and with these negative temperatures and high winds the plants probably would have all died if it weren't for this nice blanket of snow for them.

We picked up T from the airport a couple of hours ago and said, "Welcome back to winter!" The temperature right now says 7 degrees, feels like -10. Brr. It is bitter outside! I don't mind the snow, and I know the skiers are loving it but I am definitely ready for spring!

Here Comes Trouble

K was a relatively easy baby. Yes, she is very energetic. VERY. And yes, she has an intense personality. Quite intense. But those characteristics didn't really manifest themselves in her babyhood. She rarely got "into" things. A few times she got into her drawers and pulled out all her clothes, but for the most part she wasn't into opening cabinets or drawers and she wasn't a climber...two things her sister thrives on. Boo is a climber! And she gets into EVERYTHING. She loves to open drawers and empty cabinets, and she LOVES to climb. She gets up on anything and everything.

A large part of K's lack of trouble making in those areas was that when she was a baby we lived in a much smaller house that didn't afford her the opportunities that her sister now has. K was never allowed in the kitchen...mostly b/c our kitchen was so tiny that pretty much wherever we stood we would have stepped on her. We couldn't open the oven and the dishwasher at the same time in that kitchen. All my appliances, except for the toaster, were stored in the basement. So anytime we made anything that required them we had to go downstairs first. Waffles? Head to the basement. Crockpot? Blender? Down the stairs we went.

~

That was one of the selling features for me on this house: huge kitchen. Love it. Especially since I spend 75% of my day in the kitchen: cooking, eating, working on the computer, doing "school", coloring, playdough, painting, and all manner of crafts. We spend a LOT of our day in the kitchen. Thus, Boo spends a lot of her day in the kitchen therefore making it quite easy to access all those wonderful cabinets and drawers that are filled with all sorts of lovely things to get into.

~

But she also gets into other cabinets and drawers. Nothing is sacred to her. I actually don't mind if she gets into some of the drawers, but the TV cabinet is off limits. She knows that she is not supposed to be in it. There are way too many movies, games, and puzzles in there that she would just love to empty out...and has emptied out...multiple times.

~

But her inquisitive nature often gets the best of her better judgement and we occasionally find that she has snuck into forbidden territory.

Peek-A-Boo

Peek-A-Boo has been one of Boo's favorite games since she was just a few weeks old, but now she has discovered that she can self-direct the playing of it. We play this game pretty much every time she gets a diaper change. It keeps her happy and occupied while I am changing her. Usually she giggles when she comes out but she was a bit preoccupied with the camera, and then she thought she heard Daddy coming home there at the end, but you get the idea. :)

Meatloaf

I just found these pictures from a couple of weeks ago that I never posted. They were taken a week or so before Boo's birthday and it was her first full meal (eating everything that we were eating) with the family.

It's so funny how much more relaxed I am with Boo. I very rarely let Bug eat what we were eating. I thought she needed only baby foods or Gerber Graduates foods. I NEVER let her eat hamburgers and french fries as a baby. Boo loves tater tots. She gets to try it all. Second babies get privileges. :)

~

So we have been giving her bits of what we eat for a while now, but this was the first time I made her up her own plate and put everything that we had on it. And she LOVED it. Ate it right up. Except the green beans. She doesn't like green beans.

So far she has been a self-proclaimed vegetarian, but for some reason she loved this meatloaf. The only other "meat" she will eat is tuna.

Crescent roll. Good. Mashed potatoes. Good

Food. Good.

Unfortunately, being a second child, she has also discovered the wonderful world of dessert. It's unfortunate b/c now she ONLY wants dessert and is having a hard time eating her dinner first. We're working on that. :)

Stuck

Boo's new favorite thing is to climb under the dining room table and chairs. I'm not sure why she likes it b/c she usually gets stuck, ends up hitting her head several times, and fussing for a few minutes.

Yet, she still goes back, over and over and does it again. :)

She also likes to worm her way through the chairs, but usually bumps her head all the way through.

But she obviously enjoys it.

At least she's getting a pretty tough noggin'. :)

Accent Video

My friend, Rachel, did a post yesterday where she made an "accent video". I have never heard of this but thought it was a cute idea so Bug and I made one this morning. If you want to hear a cute accent you need to go watch Rachel's video. I love a good Southern accent!

So for the first part you are just supposed to say this list of words: Aunt, route (T says this one different than I do), wash, oil, theater, iron, salmon, caramel, fire, water, sure, data, ruin, crayon, toilet, New Orleans, pecan, both, again, probably, spitting image, Alabama, lawyer, coupon, mayonnaise, syrup, pajamas, caught, and rather.

(Sorry for the inappropriate pulling, haha. She still had her pull up on and it was apparently bothering her :P)

I have always been fascinated by language studies and I loved the linguistics class I took in college that went over these same things. We actually charted a list of words similar to this one with color coordination and you could see the colors (pronunciations) changing as it went across the map of the United States. I also, vividly, remember that there are 13 different pronunciations for the worchestershire. I should have said that word on the video. :) I say it like worstch-ih-shire.

1. What do you call it when you throw toilet paper on a house? (you have to go listen to Rachel's answer on this one, I had never heard of it!)

2. What is the bug that, when you touch it, curls into a ball?

5. What do you say when you address a group of people? (I think you all is a lot easier to say "you all" but I get weird looks when I say it so I usually stick with the Northern-ly accepted "you guys" :)

6. What do you call the spider that has and oval body and extremely long legs?

7. What do you call your grandparents? (this is one I've definitely noticed is different in the Northwest...true Northerners just say Grandma and Grandma or something very similar, Southerners have all sorts of fun names for their grandparents).

8. What do you call the thing that you push to carry your groceries in at the store? (T and I argue over this one).

9. What do you call it when it rains and the sun is still shining?
10. What is the thing you use to change the channel on the TV? (I have never heard of another name for this, what is it?)

I am definitely not a true Northerner having spent the first 6 years of my life in the South, and T and I have had many discussions on the proper calling of certain items like a grocery cart or basket, but I have adapted to many of the sayings up here.

~

Anyway, I just thought that was a fun little exercise. I'm going to head over to Rachel's blog later in the day to see if anyone else has posted their own accent videos!

Grumpy Pants

Boo has been going through a bit of a grumpy phase lately. Or maybe it's a I'm-discovering-what-I-like-and-don't-like-and-you-people-make-me-do-a-lot-of-stuff-I-don't-want-to-do phase. :)

~

She certainly has an independent streak starting to show! I think another part of the problem is that at this age Bug knew lots of sign language and was able to communicate with us more. For some reason Boo won't do it and, thus, isn't able to tell us what she wants.

~

So throughout each day we swing from happy giggles to grumpy squeals of unpleasantness. She also has a fussy time from about 7:00-8:00 at night. She goes to bed at 8:15 so I'm sure she is just tired, but it is hard to stay patient. :P If we are at home and all playing in the living room (on the floor) she is usually okay but if we are out and about she gets fussy.

7:00pm - The grumpies begin.

~

7:10pm -Mommy sits down in the chair and not on the floor like Boo wants.

7:11pm - Boo crawls over. Wants up. Gets up.

7:12pm - Wants down. Fusses when put down.

7:13pm - Wants back up.

7:14pm - Sister sympathizes.

7:15pm - Sister starts hamming it up for the camera.

7:18pm - Distraction by Daddy. Sister still hamming it up.

7:25pm - Boo wants back up.
7:28pm - Mommy gets tired of the fussing. Picks Boo up.
7:30pm - Boo snuggles for mere seconds. Fusses to get back down.

7:32pm - Boo gets put down. Fusses to get back up.

7:40pm - Mommy has been ignoring fussing for a full 8 minutes. Time to exercise those lungs and see if that accomplishes what we want.

7:50pm - Have entertained ourselves for 10 minutes after being scolded for yelling. Mommy gives in and asks if Boo is ready to eat (nurse).

7:51pm - Happy Girl.

Some nights are better than others, but I'm definitely ready to put an end to this phase! Thankfully if I sit on the floor it eliminates all the up and down. However that opens a whole other can of worms called "Mommy the jungle gym". And that will be a post for another day. :)

"Laugh With Me" - Part 9

Wow, I am really getting behind on these! And I can't find any for November. I switched papers somewhere around then b/c I had filled up the old one so I think November got lost in the shuffle. Hopefully I will find them soon. Here are some from December.

December 1st

Bug was in the bath. Daddy was explaining to her about the Lego Advent Calendar that he had bought. She was dawdling in her bath, not wanting to get out, when he added that there was a little bag of legos inside each door. As soon as she understood that she would be getting a present each day she excitedly put her toys away, looked at him and said, "Well let's get crackin!"

Auntie Nae - "I really like those pants Bug!"

K - "Thank you! When they get bigger you can have them!"

December 6th

I was putting some clothes away when K came running into my room.

"Mommy! We have a SASS-TER!"

Me - "What's the problem?"

K (quite disgustedly) - "My sister POINTED at me!"

December 15th

Whenever K complains about Daddy leaving for the day I tell her that we need to be thankful that Daddy has a good job and I try to explain that he brings home money so we can pay for our house and buy food and clothes. Daddy had just taken us out to lunch and when he dropped us back off at the house K said, "Now you have to go back to work so we don't have to sleep in the backyard."

Us - "Huh?"

K - "Daddy has to go to work so he can pay for our house. If he doesn't we have to sleep in the backyard!!!"

December 21st

Daddy and K were shopping for a Christmas present for me. I had socks on my list so they headed over to that department. They picked a couple pairs out and then K turned around. She got real excited and started pointing, "Let's get Mommy that!"

Daddy - "What?"

K - "That! Over there!" pointing and jumping.

Daddy - "That shirt?"

K - "No, that...that....CHEST holder!"

First Steps

Here's a little video of some of Boo's first steps! She's gotten a lot steadier in the past few days but she is still only going 4-5 steps at a time before falling.

P.S. I have NO idea why my eldest is not wearing any pants. :)
