First Day!

The girls were SO excited for the first day of school! They asked every day for two weeks whether it was time to begin. 

Their school is doing something a little different this year...I guess people have had a hard time staying on track with the online lessons that need to be completed each day so to remedy that they are trying to keep everyone on the same schedule. In previous years, returning students' lessons were up a good two weeks before the start date, but this year they didn't put them up until Sept. 7th. It was a little frustrating to have to wait since flexible scheduling is one of our big reasons for homeschooling, and our local school started on Aug. 31st. I'm hoping they'll reconsider that next year.

Anyway...I attempted "apple" pancakes for the first day although they looked more like pumpkins or peaches. Boo said, "Mommy! I didn't know you knew how to make fun pancakes!" Haha :)

We wanted to start on the 6th, but their lessons still weren't up so we did some book work and organizing of their spaces. And we took their first day pictures. :)

This is one of the outfits she picked out on our back to school shopping day. The boots she picked out with Noni. Noni always does a one-on-one back to school date/sleepover with each girl and they get to pick out something new.

Buggy is looking so tall and grown up these days! She got the sweater and boots with Noni.

Peanut was excited for her first day of preschool the next day. I told her she could color with her new school supplies while the girls were working that day, and later I saw her packing up her backpack. I went to put a spare set of clothes in her backpack after they were all asleep and found that she had apparently gotten the lid of the glue off. An entire bottle of Elmer's glue was all through her new school supplies.

  

And of course it had leaked out onto her new backpack. It doesn't actually look that bad here, but it took me good 30 minutes to get all the glue off everything. :P

  

The first official day started off a little rough...

 

You can tell Boo's enthusiasm had lessened. Haha :)

 

The first few days are always a little rough to get into the routine again. 

Daddy had to work so we weren't able to walk Peanut to preschool. I grabbed a couple of pictures of her before I took her.

She was a little nervous and said, "Mommy! How about you stay with me!" But then she noticed the TV was on, and promptly sat down to watch. I told her goodbye and she didn't budge.

Miss J posted this on Facebook later that day. Best buddies! So cute.

She said recess was the best part of school. :)

Back at home we went through our days' lessons. It was fun to do this lesson with Boo because I specifically remember doing it with K.

 

It's nice to be familiar with the 1st grade curriculum. 4th grade is brand new to both K and I, but so far we're getting through it just fine. 

 

After we picked up Peanut from school we met Daddy for lunch and got a celebratory 1st day ice cream.

Now we're ready to tackle 1st and 4th grade!

Wordless Wednesday

Waterpark!

Noni had gotten free waterpark tickets for herself and the girls through her school's reading program so on Thursday of our "Staycation" we headed over there! We also invited Auntie Nae, Waylon, and Kenzie to join us!

Peanut was SO excited about the "train ride" which is a little roller coaster shaped like a train. She talked about it for days leading up to our trip so it was the first thing she wanted to do!

She wasn't tall enough to go on some of the kiddie rides, but Bug and Boo enjoyed the frog drop.

Peanut happily went on the airplanes and helicopters though! She was so excited to try every ride that she was tall enough for. Bug and Boo joined her for a round on the airplanes.

 

Peaches only got snatches of naps, but at least she slept some in the stroller.

 

It would have been the perfect day if it had been 10 degrees warmer. We had a great time, but it was pretty chilly when we got wet...such as on this ride. We all got soaked from the waist down, but the kids loved it!

Auntie Nae stayed with the little ones so the rest of us could ride it.

After lunch we left the theme park and headed over to the water park side. The water was chilly so the kids didn't play too much, but they did have a some fun.

This was a new ride since last year. It's a race and they put your times up on a reader board. Daddy, Boo, and Bug went on it.

The favorite was the family raft ride. We took Bug and Boo down it several times, then they talked Auntie Nae and Daddy into going on it again. I think they went down it 5 or 6 times.

Everybody was shivering so we changed back into dry clothes and headed back to the theme park. Daddy stopped and bought them candy apples on the way.

Then it was back to the train coaster. I think they rode this thing about ten times over the course of the day. Haha :)

So happy!

I fed Ez while they went on the bumper boats. Boo was a pro! There was one boy who looked to be 10-12 who got stuck out in the pond because he couldn't figure out how to drive his boat back to the dock, but Boo handled hers like a pro and zipped right in there!

Peaches wasn't having it to take her afternoon nap in the stroller so Noni held her until she fell asleep.

Daddy took Bug and Boo on one of the BIG roller coasters. They came back a little queasy. :P 

Peanut rode the helicopters four times, the doggy ride twice, and the kiddie Ferris wheel while we waited. She had so much fun!

We stayed as long as we could before having to leave to make it home for bed. We had to stop and do the carousel on the way out. Noni has a picture of T and I on this in high school all dressed up in our Choir formal wear. We had done a show there. :)

Despite the cooler weather it was a great day and we all had a lot of fun! The whole week went way too fast, but we had a great time and enjoyed our last week full of summer fun as a family!

Staycation

T had a week long break from his school before Labor Day so he decided to take the week off work too.The original plan was to work on the farmhouse all week, but he hadn't had a break all summer so we ended up having mostly "fun" days. We did work on the house two days and finished all the downstairs framing so that was nice. 

One day was spent back to school shopping. We got new school supplies and a couple new outfits for each of them. We let Peanut pick out a backpack to take to preschool.

We also went to town one day and had dinner with Grandma and Grandpa at a place we'd never been before. It was a buffet. The girls LOVE buffets. They think it's the coolest thing ever. And this one got especially high reviews because they had a girl making cotton candy! They decided it was their new favorite restaurant. :)

We had a free evening so we invited some friends over for an impromptu pizza game night.

We spent part of one day bowling with Noni and Papa. The girls are actually pretty good little bowlers!

They did use the bumpers though. :)

 

Boo's method of getting a running start cracked me up...

 Peaches was supposed to be sleeping in the corner, but I looked over to see little feet kicking away. She did eventually take a short nap.

 

They didn't have shoes small enough for Peanut but that didn't stop her from bowling away!

The girls, Noni, and I bowled a couple of games and then went over to check out the arcade games. Daddy and Papa bowled 5 or 6 games! The girls had a great time spending all of Noni and I's quarters. Haha :)

The girls got to spend the night with Noni and Papa after church, and Grandma and Grandpa came out on Labor Day and brought us lunch. Grandpa helped Daddy fix some things at the Farmhouse and begun the war on the mice. So far we've caught 7.  :( 

We also spent one day at a water/theme park, but that deserves a post all of it's own. Pictures tomorrow!
