Sheetrock!

 Our Sheetrock was delivered in November. T went with 12 ft sheets this time which go up so much faster, and cause a lot less seams, but are also VERY heavy! 

 

 

Of course Grandpa, our very own Rube Goldberg, created a fancy cart/ramp/pulley system to make it possible. This was what we'd been leaving the last window out for...to be able to put the Sheetrock straight into the upstairs. These piles were quite daunting, but with Grandpa's fancy invention it was doable.

 

 

He welded together some handles that we hooked onto two sheets at a time, and then those were hooked to a huge chain to that was connected to the tractor. The tractor would pick up the sheets and all we had to do was guide them onto the trolley. Then we would use the pulley to wheel them upstairs where we would unload and send the trolley back down for another round. It was quite clever. And saved us $1450 which is what the company wanted to put it upstairs! 

One weekend the guys created my laundry chute in the small space between the addition and the old house, which was left for fire code. This is it before it is finished, but you can see into it and the various angles they had to put on it to get it to work.

 

 

T and I spend a weekend and some weeknights insulating the ceilings and the rest of the garage, and then it was finally time for Sheetrock! I always love when we get to this point! 

 

 

T found some cheep little things on Amazon that are magnets that you put into outlets and light sockets, then you put up the sheet, put the magnet on and use the rotozip to buzz out the hole or square. These handy little thing saved us a good 10-20 minutes PER SHEET! They were amazing! No more time consuming, precise measuring and cutting out the little holes before we could put the sheets up! 

 

 

T and I were able to get the ceilings up with Noni and Papa's Sheetrock jack...another SUPER handy invention!

And with the help of Grandpa, Dr. T, and the two teenage boys we were able to completely finish both the upstairs and the garage over the long Thanksgiving weekend!!! So exciting! 

There is light at the end of the tunnel!
