I haven’t done a day-in-the-life post in a while so here goes…this is from over a month ago, but I didn’t want to post our exact schedule at the time. Thankfully now we are in summer mode and all these busy activities have dwindled. :)
7:13 – little feet scurrying through the hall upstairs, roll over, look at the alarm clock and try to go back to sleep.
7:15 – little feet are turning into big elephant feet crashing through the hall upstairs. Debate whether to get out of bed and remind the tweedles for the 957th time that they need to play quietly in their rooms until the clock says 8.
8:15 – must have fallen back to sleep, T gets up to get ready for work. Roll over and grab my phone. Pull up my Proverbs 31 devotional for the day knowing full well if I don’t read it the instant I wake up it won’t get read AT ALL.
8:20 – out of bed, head to the kitchen. Wake up the computer, pull up K’s lesson plan for the day. Open Vocabulary lesson.
8:25 – Boo comes down, let her pick breakfast since she’s the first to appear. She chooses the leftover waffles we made yesterday.
8:27 – K comes down, ask her to do her vocab lesson while I make breakfast.
8:31 – Hear Peanut talking in the monitor, go in to get her. Sing This is the Day. Change a stinky diaper. Bring her to the kitchen and put her in the highchair. Sprinkle a few cheerios on her tray to keep her from yelling, “Mommy!” every few seconds, with increasing volume, until she gets her breakfast.
8:42 – Vocab done. Sit down to eat waffles with strawberries and whipped cream, with a side of yogurt (breakfast is our biggest meal of the day). Read the kids’ devotional for the day.
8:55 – Back to work. K and S sit at the computer to do their Phonics lesson while I clean up the breakfast mess. Attempt to get whipped cream out of the baby’s hair with a washcloth.
9:15 – Time for math. Boo gets bored and heads upstairs to play. Peanut dumps all the toys out of the basket in the kitchen and then follows. Make it through without a breakdown (it’s a 50/50 shot with this subject).
9:45 – K begs for a break. I tell her she only has 15 minutes stored up (I give her five minutes for each subject she completes). She promises that THIS time she will come right when the timer goes off (hasn’t happened the last 23 times but here’s hoping). Pull out the next subjects books and flip to the right pages. Go get contacts in, run a brush through my hair. Peanut finds me in the bathroom and starts to pull all the bows off the organizer. Distract her by getting her dressed and changing another stinky diaper.
10:00 – Timer goes off. K says, “It’s been 15 minutes already?!?” My thoughts exactly. Back to work. Writing is next on the list.
10:15 – Moving right along to Literature. Three minutes later, K says, “Can I have a break?” Me, “No you just had one.” Boo comes down and wants in my lap to hear the story.
10:18 – Peanut sees Boo in my lap and starts pulling on her leg yelling. Boo sweetly scoots over to share my lap with her demanding little sister. Finish lesson, after juggling two squirmy girls. K falls off chair…twice.
11:00 – Enter completed lesson into the computer. K, “Can I have a break now?” Me, “It’s already 11, we need to keep moving. Pull up the Science lesson online while K gets out the workbook. Go through the lesson and then pull out our K-sized human body so she can draw the circulatory system.
11:25 – Finish Science and head to my room to get out of my pajama pants.
11:28 – Hear crying. Peanut has stepped on the human body paper and ripped it, and K is the one crying. I put Peanut in the highchair with some math manipulatives and hand K the tape to heal her wounded body (and feelings).
11:38 – Done for the day! Have the girls help me put away the markers and papers.
11:45 – Pull out the bread and start making the ever popular PB&J. Make a salad for myself and pull out Squeeze packet applesauce so I don’t have to cut up fruit.
12:00 – Time for lunch. Eat lunch, discourage laughing when the baby burps and then claps for herself after saying, “Toos too!” Read the girls a story from Everyday Graces and hope that somehow the moral presented is seeping in to someone's’ brain.
12:30 – Consider bathing Peanut after feeling the crunchy hair leftover from it’s whipped cream application earlier, but instead take a washcloth to her hands, arms, and face after peeling off the clothes that are smeared with food after the bib was ripped off and tossed to the ground mid-meal. Clean-up lunch dishes, and help Boo clean the yesterday-mopped floor after an attempt to clear her dish results in an upside-down plate of crumbs, jelly smears, and now smashed banana slices. Get out the hand vacuum so the floor stops crunching underneath my slippers.
12:45 – Sit down to check my email while the girls run off in different directions.
1:00 – Find Peanut in her room, clean diapers strewn about. Ask if she needs a new diaper, “Yeah!” Thankfully not a stinky one this time. Read books, get her in bed.
1:25 – Close the nursery door with a sigh. Hear the other two upstairs playing so I take the time to sit in my room and read a few chapters in my bible. I have been reading through it start to finish but I only get a few chapters in a day so it is literally taking me years.
1:35 – Hear yelling upstairs. Quiets down. Then a door slams. Head up to referee and role play a better way to handle sharing situations. We have really been working on talking about our feelings and coming up with solutions instead of just slamming the door and not speaking to one another.
1:45 – Grab my tennis shoes and head to the breezeway. 22 minutes on the elliptical, which is the length of one episode of reliving my childhood with Saved By the Bell-thank you Netflix. :)
2:04 – Girls come down and ask if it’s time to come down yet, “Not yet, please play quietly until I come to get you.” 25 minutes (light)weight lifting workout video. Get a drink of water and check my email again.
2:45 – Get girls ready for dance class.
2:52 – Babysitter arrives, straight from school.
3:00 – Take Boo to dance class.
3:05 – Get home, go for a walk with my friend.
3:55 – Get back. Tell K it’s time to go. Grab a snack for her. Jump in the car. Drive to dance and exchange the girls.
4:00 – Back home, inside for a small snack. Ask S to be quiet. She wakes up A instead. Babysitter leaves. Get A up and give her some goldfish crackers in her highchair. Shove a few toys in the kitchen basket after tripping on one.
4:10 – Ask girls for a five minute clean up. Set the timer and help them rush around getting everything off the floor.
4:15 – Turn on the TV and let Boo pick one show. She chooses Daniel Tiger’s Neighborhood. Peanut says, “Show! Yay!” and hops up on the couch between them. Grab the T-ball uniforms and put S in hers while she is distracted by the TV. Feel like I’m dressing a mannequin, but it’s much easier than watching her take an hour to do it herself. Boo asks for spaghetti after seeing Daniel eat it on her show. Ok, that works.
4:25 – Run out to the garage to get some homemade spaghetti sauce out of the big freezer.
4:28 – Peanut hears me in the kitchen and comes running in to “hep”. She bulldozes her way into the cupboard as I’m getting the noodles out and quick as lightening gets the cracker box open. Two crackers are extracted before I can even react. Choose not to fight this battle and watch as she happily toddles off with her prize.
4:44 – Peanut the destructor is back. Work quickly as she drags the stool over to the oven. Scoot it out of harm’s way and then allow her to climb up. Cook, while telling her “Hot! Stay back!” and ignore the rearranging of “pates!” and “orks!”
4:50 – Text T and give him a ten minute dinner warning, and reminder to pick up K.
5:02 – Fill plates and water glasses and get them in the rights spots.
5:05 – T and K walk in the door and sit down. Pray, eat.
5:20 – Help K get into her t-ball uniform.
5:25 – “Everyone go to the bathroom we’re leaving in two minutes!” Throw the dinner dishes in the sink to deal with later. Pack a snack for Peanut to keep her busy during the game.
5:30 – Out the door. Buckling car seats. Sit down in the pick-up and take a breath. Drive to the game.
5:45 – Arrive. Help T drag out the stroller, kids and T-Ball equipment. Follow Peanut around while the kids warm up. Remind a mom that she has snack next game.
6:00 – PLAY BALL!
7:00 – Rah, rah Marlins! Good game. Good game. Good game. Good game.
7:30 – Home.
8:00 – Pajama time!
8:30 – Turn out the last light. Blow the last kiss.
8:32 – Fall on the couch in exhaustion and remain there with Netflix and my crochet project.
