Vacation!!!

Whew!  On Sunday afternoon we got back from a 9 day trip to Florida! It definitely had it’s ups and downs but overall it was a great trip and we made some new fun memories! 

The girls were excited to go on an “ah-pane!” as Peanut says.

They had fun watching the planes take off while we waited to board.  I was trying to explain the process of luggage and told them it went in the “belly” of the plane.  So for the next 20 minutes Peanut ran around the airport lifting her shirt up and flashing all the windows yelling, “AH-PANE!  BEL-YEE!”

She just barely made it under the 2 year limit for lap children.  It would have been a LOT nicer if she’d had her own seat but we made do and she was pretty good as long as we kept her occupied with snacks, markers, and toys.

We were in the air during the girls’ lunchtime so I had let them pick out Lunchables a few days before.  Thankfully Peanut took almost an hour to eat hers along with some blueberries, pretzels, and raisins. 

We had a two and half hour layover in the Phoenix airport and were happy to find a little play spot for kids.  Why on earth do airports not  have playsets for kids??  There are SO many kids in the airports and nothing for them to do.  If I was in charge of them I would have the big McDonald’s-type playsets at every wing!

The girls were wired and ran and jumped and rough-housed all over these mats.

Then it was back on another plane for a 4 hour ride.   Peanut hadn’t had her nap and I thought for sure she would fall asleep.  Not a chance.  She was happy as long as we didn’t try to make her sleep.  The girls watched Curious George for part of the flight.

And we did lots of markers and workbooks.

We got smart after our last trip (arriving at our hotel at 2:45 AM) and stayed at one of the hotels on the Sky Train in Atlanta, that way we were able to go straight to our hotel and not worry about picking up our rental car and driving to a hotel.  It worked MUCH better, and even though we were exhausted the girls got to bed only half an hour past their usual time thanks to the time difference. 

The next morning we dragged our luggage back up to the Sky Train and took it to the rental center.  I had to get a picture of our stuff.  We had four big suitcases, three carseats, and five backpacks (or pack-packs, as A says).  It doesn’t look like that much in this picture (one suitcase is hiding) but it sure felt like a lot when we were dragging it all through the airport at midnight!

We drove the 5 hours to Panama City and the girls did great.  We stopped a few times, but for the most part we just kept going.  We hit a HUGE rainstorm and could hardly see at one point.  Cars were pulling off to the side of the highway and the ones that didn’t were using their hazard lights and going really slow.  It didn’t last too long, and we made it without any problems.
