Going Home

Last vacation post!

On our last morning we woke up early to get all packed up and out of the beach house.  Then we hit Alvin's Island again so Noni could get a few souvenirs and postcards too.

Then it was off to Chik-Fil-A for a yummy lunch!

trip32

We hit the play place before we left and what ensued was hilariously awful!

trip33

First Peanut happily toddled around checking out all the cool stuff.

trip34

Boo found the car.

trip35

But when it was time to go Peanut refused to leave!  She was up in the car at that point and she wrapped her arms around the “steering wheel” column and held on for dear life screaming, “NOOO!”  Buggy was sent to fetch her and I felt like giving her $50 for her trouble when she had to pry her baby sisters hands off the car and literally DRAG her, kicking and screaming, through the tunnels and over to the slide before shoving her down it.  Poor Bug.  It was SOOO funny, and terrible at the same time!

Not surprisingly Peanut looked like this a few miles down the road.

trip36

I had to grab some pictures when we went through a really neat historical district in Dothan, AL.  I only managed to get two, unobstructed by trees.  So cool!

When we stopped to get gas before returning the car it was time for dinner.  We had seen literally dozens of these “Waffle House”es.  They were everywhere!  So we decided to give it a try.

Most of the ones we’d seen looked a little bit run-down and shady but the food was actually REALLY good and was a great price!  And our kids LOVE breakfast food above all else so for the first time all week they ate and ate and ate!

Lovin’ some Waffle House! :)

trip40

We dropped off the rental car, gathered up our baggage and hit the skytrain to the hotel.  We took the kids swimming to burn off some energy before bed.  See this sweet little face?

Don’t let it fool you!  Peanut slept GREAT the whole trip EXCEPT this last night!  Would. Not. Go. To. Sleep.

We finally gave up and put her in bed with us (her first night of co-sleeping EVER).  Still wouldn’t sleep.  Then she said, “Wah?” which is water.  I filled up her water and she drank and drank and drank till it was dry!  8 oz!  Apparently she was just incredible thirsty??  She finally fell asleep but woke up every hour, so we literally had 3-4 hours of sleep before getting up at 6:45 (our 4:45) to catch our plane.  We had to wake everyone up to get out on time.

trip42

The airport was CRAZY!  I love this picture of Bug because it totally captures the wild-eyed, “Are we going to make it??” way I was feeling.  She was such a trooper, carrying her backpack along with the carseat.

trip43

We had to haul all our stuff through the airport, wait in line for almost an hour just to check in, then wait in another big line for security.  My biceps were SO SORE the next day from carrying Peanut!

Even though we’d arrive at the airport 1.5 hours early we literally walked up to our gate and onto the plane.  We didn’t have time to go to the bathroom, get a drink or anything.

Thankfully Peanut ate breakfast and slept for an hour on the first flight.  We barely had time to go to the bathroom on our layover before boarding again so she wasn’t able to run off any energy.  Consequently, she was quite a little pistol on the second flight!  We were hard pressed to keep her occupied.  Noni was a huge help.  Between the three of us adults we managed to keep the kids somewhat happy.

Airplane tent.

Whew!  That was an exhausting trip home!  We had a great vacation but it is SO nice to be home!  We spent two days doing laundry and unpacking, but now we’re back to normal (whatever that is). :)

Thank you Aunt Jody, Uncle Ken, Pawpaw, Nana, Sean, Jen, Eve and especially Noni and Aunt Karen for making our trip wonderful!
