“Summer”

A few years ago I began to hear about global cooling…you know the opposite of global warming?  I must say it makes a lot more sense!  We used to easily and consistently be up in the 90’s in July, and break 100 multiple times without a problem, but I cannot remember the last time it got that warm here. 

When I was younger I almost always had my birthday at the lake or a pool and it was so hot!  The past few years it seems like we can’t even break 80 by my birthday.  I am trying to be thankful that it is not super-warm this summer since I know I would probably be miserable without air conditioning and all, but it would be really nice if we could at least get out of the 70’s!

The girls have been asking to get the pool out for weeks now and I just kept telling them it was too cold so when I saw that the forecast for yesterday was supposed to be 78 I decided we could finally get it out.

My plan was to spend the morning letting them swim while I got to read my book, but since we had yet to do a winter clean-up I spent over two hours washing down the deck and patio furniture, and going back and forth pouring boiling water into the pool so I wouldn’t have two little popsicles on my hands. 

I let them get their swimsuits on at 10:30 even though it was only 68 and they happily started playing away. 

Boo was laughing so hard when she would slide into the water.  It was really cute.

Instead of getting warmer as the morning went on it seemed to get colder.  It didn’t really…I think it warmed up to 73 (not quite 78!), but the wind started to blow and that made them chilly.  I dumped 16 pots of boiling water into this little kiddie pool before finally giving up!  They spent most of their time laying in the water once the wind started to blow.

Daddy came home for lunch and by that time the sun had come back out in full force and the wind had died down so they were warm enough to get out and have a little picnic on the deck.

I told them they could go back in after naps but by then it was shady back there and the pool had cooled off.  It is supposed to get up to 80 by the end of the week so (crossing my fingers) we’ll be able to have some more pool fun that won’t require so many trips back and forth from the kitchen. :)
