VBS Week

Whew!  VBS week always wears me out!  It’s only 2.5 hours each morning, but I never once sit down and all the planning and getting everyone ready and there seems exhausting. 

Thankfully this year we were SO blessed to have Grandma spend the week with us!!!  There was nursery offered for the worker’s kids but I can rarely get Peanut to go in the nursery for 35 minutes during the sermon on Sunday so I knew there was no way she’d go for 2.5 hours!  Grandma graciously agreed to come out and take care of her all week so I could do snacks without my un-helpful helper. :) Peanut and Grandma had a great time here at home!  Grandma helped me out around the house too by doing dishes and laundry and taking the girls for a walk one afternoon.  SO SO nice!   I am truly blessed with such a wonderful mother-in-law!

Our theme was Sonworld, an adventure theme park.  This was my first year to be totally in charge of snacks so I kept it pretty simple:

Monday: goldfish crackers

Tuesday: “caramel apples” (apple slices with a dollop of caramel)

Wednesday: animal crackers

Thursday: mini-corndogs

Friday: popcorn

Bug and Boo did awesome this year!  Last year Boo didn’t want to stay with her class, but this year it was no big deal.  She happily went off with her teachers and friends with a smile and wave in my direction.

Bug of course had a blast with all her friends!  Here she is during craft time.

We went out to Mexican food one day and Peanut and Boo taught Grandma the hand game. :)

One of their crafts was a big clear balloon with all manner of confetti and glitter.  Bug loved it!  I was nervous it was going to pop in the car. :)

I had to take some pictures of Boo looking so cute one day when I went in to drop off her class’s snack.

Art project time!

We’ve had weeks on end of sunny 80 degree whether and Monday dawned a cold and rainy 50 degrees.  It rained Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.  Thankfully this year we have a new addition going up so the kids were able to play and get some energy out during game time without getting wet.

I thought everyone did a great job decorating the church!  It looked really fun and the kids loved it!

Haircuts

I have been meaning to cut the girls’ hair for months!  I finally got them in this week.  Bug’s was getting unmanageably long and was taking me about 10 minutes just to brush it out.  She was “growing it out like Rapunzel” she said. :)  It was getting so long she could tip her head back and sit on it!

In fact it was so long she couldn’t even sit in the chair.  She had to stand and let the hairdresser sit down!

She took about 6 inches off and it’s MUCH more manageable now!

We also decided to get Boo’s hair a trim for the first time EVER!  She was SO happy!  She hopped up in the chair and gasped, “Look how beautiful I look!”

She barely got any taken off, but it’s more even now.

Cutie pie.  Grandma and I both got our haircut too so it was a family affair. :)  The way Peanut’s hair is growing it will be a long time before we can get hers cut! 

“Daddy Coming”

I love how much Peanut is talking these days.  I am happy to report that she seems to be out of her “terrible two’s” phase for the most part.  She is still a whirling dervish, whipping through the house at destruction level 99, but at least she’s stopped throwing fits, screaming, and whatever else was going on those few weeks.  She is talking a lot more so it helps that she is able to communicate better.  I was trying to get her to say, “Daddy coming” because it’s really cute.  She says it near the end.  You can see her *gasp* in this video.  She gasps all the time when she sees something she thinks is exciting. This time it was a bird or “duck” as she called it. :)

Parks and Picnics

Last week I needed to borrow something for a friend.  She already had plans for a day at the park so we joined her playdate. 

Peanut was SO excited to see the ducks and geese.  She was reaching both hands out and saying, “Look!  Look!” You can’t tell how big these geese are from this picture but they are eye level with Peanut, probably weighing more than she does, and they’re not too shy to get up close!

The girls had a great time running around with the other kids, exploring the park!

Miss K offered to take Peanut down the slide.  She loved it!

So did the big girls.

Whee!

Bug has become such a helpful big sister!  She is really great with Peanut and is a big help to me when I need an extra pair of hands!

Peanut was happy to be free and ran all over climbing on anything she could reach.

She really loves animals like her biggest sister!  Boo, as a baby, would never have let an animal get this close to her! Peanut, in an opposite manner, wanted the goose to come up to her!

We hit the carousel as soon as it opened.

Peanut may love real animals but she wasn’t too keen on the fake ones!  She refused to get on a horse so after several tries I gave up and sat on one of the benches with her.  She was getting really antsy waiting for the ride to start so I let her take a few selfies. :)

When we started moving she wasn’t sure what to think.

But then she discovered that she LOVED it!  She was squealing and laughing, saying, “Yay! Me! Yay!”

We ate a little picnic lunch with our friends.

And then it was time to go.  I had to stop at UPS to mail Bug’s school books back (they send you mailing labels so it doesn’t cost anything) so it was past Peanut’s naptime when we got home.  Usually she lays in bed talking and singing for a while before she falls asleep, but I took this picture about 90 seconds after I put her down.

January 31st

A random day…K: “Is it a special occasion?” Me: “No.”  K: “What was yesterday?” Me: “Um. Thursday? Why?” K: “Was it Auntie Nae’s birthday?” Me: “No. That was Wednesday….yesterday was Miss Linda’s (a friend she hasn’t seen in a while) birthday.” K: “Oh good!  Let’s go down to the ice cream shop and CELEBRATE!”

February 16th

K: “Look Daddy!  I’m eating.  I can’t talk so I’m doing sign language!” She holds up three fingers and then makes an O and then the three fingers again. W – O – W.

April 22nd

At Mexican food.  She has a really hard time listening to my suggestions for clothes and will often wear summer outfits in winter or spring and vice versa.  She was wearing a sundress and it was barely 50 degrees out.  T said, “Bug. Sit up and eat please.”  She was curled up in the booth shivering with her head under the table.  “I can’t. I’m trying to survive by keeping myself warm.”

“Mommy! I’ve got 8 spelling words correct in a row! I guess I’m a professional at this!”

May 16th

T had to go to a business meeting in town and wore a suit, which he rarely does.  When he walked in the kitchen to tell the girls goodbye K said, “Wow!  Daddy! You look like the president! Presidents always wear black and white like that.” S pipes up, “No he looks like a gwoom!”
