We seem to be having a strange summer weather-wise. I feel like we waited so long for it to warm up and now summer is nearly over. :( Some days we went to the lake and it was 90 and HOT and other days we went and it was cloudy and in the 70's and the kids were freezing! Because of course they didn't care what the temperature was...they dove right in regardless.
It always amazes me how kids don't seem to be affected by the temperature outside.
I have to watch Lou really carefully. The first 5 or 6 times we went to the lake she stayed out of the water almost entirely. She started getting braver and one day I was 10-15 feet away when she reached for a shovel and plopped on her belly. She was in not even up to her waist but instead of just standing up she stayed under water. In the 3 seconds it took me to get over there and pluck her out, plus 1 second of realizing she wasn't going to stand up, she managed to hold her breath and didn't even cough or sputter, but after that I've made sure to never be more than a few feet away from her.
We tried life jackets but the puddle jumper is still too big and just falls off her, and the infant one turns her into the Michelin man and she waddles around like the kid from a Christmas story. If she falls over she can't get back up. :P This picture is exactly what she looked like when she was under, just a few inches deeper.
Since then this is how she likes to "swim". She gets on her belly and scoots around. Thankfully she seems to have learned her lesson and this is as deep as she goes.

Peanut and Boo get chilly the fastest and usually spend a lot of time in the sand warming up.
The kids still love finding tadpoles and watching them swim around.
This was another day, and a cold one. The sun kept going behind the clouds and in was in the low 70's.
I still can't believe how grown up these girls are getting!
When it's cold they build what they call "warming stations" where it's just deep enough to sit in and water warms up in the sun if you leave it there long enough. :)
Their friends S&A found a kayak...we tried to find one and they are all sold out. We are thankful for friends who are willing to share! Peanut wanted to try it by herself but couldn't manage to go anywhere.
So Bug sweetly took her for a ride.
Hopefully we can find one next summer!
Because cold or hot they all LOVE going to the lake!
