Camp!

Because our Texas trip was Covid-cancelled our three big girls were able to go to the bible camp our church is affiliated with! They were SOO excited and counted down the days until it was their turn. They went three weeks in a row. Bug first, then Boo, then Peanut. Bug went to 11-12 camp since her friend F is 12, and if she'd gone to teen camp she would have had to miss out on part of our 4th of July at the farm, and she also said she didn't want to miss my birthday. Sweet girl.

We carpooled so I was the one who took the girls to camp. It's quite a long drive so Daddy kept everyone but Peanut who came with us. She was really nervous about camp and wanted to check everything out.

Because many local camps were closed due to Covid they were extra crowded this year. So much so that they ended up having to get big army tents for the overflow. Boo and F were placed in one of those. I felt bad for them as the tent was in the upper 80's and outside was only in the mid 70's, but they said it wasn't too bad.

The inside was super crowded with barely enough space to walk between the mattresses.

They had so much fun though! Their "cabin" won the "big event" and got to stay up really late the last night and eat smores around the fire pit. Bug's activities were Volleyball and Arts and Crafts. F's mom picked them up so the next week when we picked up Boo I was able to get a picture of Bug with her cabin leader.

Boo went to 9/10 camp with her friend F, and drove up with her family. They also got in the overflow instead of a cabin, but instead of the secondary overflow (tent) they got in one of the teepees! They look small but they are actually pretty roomy inside and fit four sets of bunk beds!

We picked Boo up at the end of her week. Here is her cabin leader, V. We got to hear all the fun stories and songs from camp on the drive home. It sounded like they had a wonderful time! Boo's activities were mini-golf and archery.

At 7/8 camp, for Peanut, they don't get to choose their own activities, they just rotate through and stay together as a cabin so she got to do dodge-ball, mini-golf, and arts and crafts. All three of the girls were able to go horseback riding and swimming in the lake during free time.

Peanut got the same cabin leader as Boo, and she must have been a good one because she got the cabin leader of the week award!

But the best part about Peanut's week was she got to go with her three best friends! This little foursome is quite the group! Such sweet girls!

Peanut was so nervous for her first time away from home she was literally making herself sick. She hardly ate in the two days before camp and only drank because I forced her to. I didn't know if she was going to make it or if we might be heading home but she pulled herself together and was able to stay.

She chose a bottom bunk because the top ones didn't have railings and she was worried about falling off.

I never realized how much temperature could fluctuate until we started getting ours taken all the time. When we dropped Bug off at camp Peanut, F, and I all had elevated temps just from standing in the sun for a few minutes. After standing in the shade for a few minutes we were fine.

We didn't have to stand in line too long to check in for Peanut at the beginning and her temp was fine there, but it was pretty hot and by the time we had to get a second temp check at another point in the registration line she was over a hundred. We stood in the shade for a few minutes but she was still high so we went and sat in the office which was the only air conditioned place at camp. I went and dug some shorts out of her bag since she was wearing long black pants and once she changed and sat for a while she was only 99 which was acceptable for them. They told me if she registered above a hundred at the breakfast temp checks the next morning she'd have to come home.

I honestly expected a call any minute for the first two days she was gone. She told me later that she felt like she was going to throw up the first night but was fine once she ate dinner. She really was just making herself sick with nerves. She takes after her Daddy who used to do the same thing as a child. This first time away from home was just the first time we'd ever seen it exhibited in her.

I am so so glad she was able to stay and I'm so thankful all three of our big girls got to have an amazing camp experience this summer! So many new fun memories!
