Just Keep Siding, Just Keep Siding

 I feel like I just posted an update but I guess it's been awhile. This has been the summer of siding. We just keep plugging along. Thankfully it is looking gorgeous on the finished parts so that keeps us going and makes it worthwhile, but it has been quite the project! 

The girls use the scaffolding as their own personal jungle gym. :P This is higher than they are normally allowed to go but they were being daring for the picture.

 

 

I was so excited to get the little shed roof off of the dining room bump out. It was the last of the old green tin roofing! 

 

 

 

It looks so much better with that off!

 

We are just about finished going up and around the fireplace. He had to make stair step cuts in the siding for every one of those little bricks. It was quite time consuming as you can imagine!

Wheelbarrow rides one evening while Mommy and Daddy worked.

This was my view one day from the tip top of the scaffolding where I was painting soffits.

 

 

One night it was getting late and I hadn't started dinner so Peanut offered to make dinner. She went to the garden and picked spinach and lettuce for a salad and a carrot too. Then she heated up some burrito mix I'd previously made, shredded cheese, cut up tomatoes, and got tortillas and chips out. Great job Peanut!

One thing that has been an annoying eyesore since we bought the place is that the power lines come straight into the front of the house on the porch. 

 

We were SO happy when we finally got to the place where the power company could come and rip them all out and hook up to the power pole we'd set and dug earlier this summer!

Here's the guy unhooking us from the power pole across the street and re-hooking it to the one we dug so it's not coming straight into the front of the house.

And here is the porch with the siding! We are thinking about keeping the front triangle above the porch because of all the old cool wood and detailing. Some of it is pretty warped so we're going to try to see if we can save it. 

 For the front of the porch itself we are thinking about bricking. We love the way the brick fireplace looks against the blue siding and think it would be neat to tie that look into the front porch. The porch itself is going to be a big project though so that will have to wait. It's not very structurally sound and is going to need to be shored up in several places and possibly new concrete poured underneath for stability. That's probably going to have to wait for next summer though.
