Birthday Fun

After the party we hung around the mall for a bit longer and then Noni and Mama took the little ones back for naps.

They took the cake back with them. This cake had quite the journey!  Here is what it looked like after I first frosted it. 

It spent the night in the fridge and then I held it on my lap all the way to the party (about an hour) while the sun was beating in on it.  I noticed as we drove that it seemed to be getting lighter in color but I thought my eyes were just playing tricks on me.  I realized as we got to the party that it had indeed faded in the sun!  It was just slightly lighter than the candle when we started out and you can see what it looked like by the time we reached the party!

 

After the party was over I asked Mama if she would mind holding it on her lap on the way home.  She joked that if Noni stopped suddenly she might be the first one to try the cake.  Turns out she was!  But not from a sudden stop.  It was from this crazy wonderful heat wave we’ve been having!  Shortly after they’d left us in town Noni texted me, that they had the air conditioning on but the cake was starting to melt.  She then sent me a picture, and I realized she wasn’t exaggerating one bit!  Mama ended up with handfuls of drippy icing on the way home! 

So funny!

T and I took the birthday girl to her favorite place…Target…to do some shopping.  She had found a Princess clock at Target when we went to see her cousins several weeks ago and had been asking for it ever since.  She already has a very functional, although very boring, black alarm clock in her room so we told her no.  For some reason she just thought it was wonderful so we told her she would have to save up the money and buy it herself.  I honestly thought she would soon forget about it, but at least once a week she would count her money and see if she had enough for the Princess clock.  So you can just imagine her delight when she opened a card from Pawpaw and Nana and discovered some birthday money.  She was SO happy and the first thing she said was, “Now I can buy my clock!”  She asked me to take a picture of it to show them. 

She was also excited that she only had to use about half her money so now she’s scheming about what else she can buy. :)

After Target we made a quick stop at Hobby Lobby and then still had some extra time before I had to be back to feed Peanut so we asked her where else she would like to go.  She told us she wanted to go paint pottery.  I was surprised that she even remembered doing that at Christmas, but since we had the time we went for it.  She was so happy!

She picked a butterfly and went to work meticulously painting every bit of it.

Then it was back to Noni and Papa’s to finish up our birthday celebrations with the melted cake.  It made me think of the Mad Hatter for some reason.  Noni thought it looked like a Dr. Seuss cake. :)

Even Peanut helped her blow out the candles! :)

More great presents!

Boo bought her a Lego Friends set.

She got some fun new clothes, art supplies, stickers, and more.

Noni and Papa got her a really neat art decorating/jewelry box set.

Then it was time for the big enchilada.  Daddy had run an entire skein of yarn: down the deck stairs, through the playset (she had to slide down the slide) under the trampoline, around the trees, up to the front of the house, through the dog door, through the kitchen, and down the inside stairs to the bottom deck.  She wound it up as she went.  She worked hard for this present!

And the reaction was worth it!

T and I both got “big kid” bikes for our 6th birthdays and since she was getting too big for the little one we have, we decided to carry on the tradition. 

It’s a little bit big for her, but she’ll grow into it in no time!

Then it was back inside for one last present.  And since Boo had been such a little sweetheart all day long we bought her one too when we were at Target.

Bike helmets!  Bug has always used her baseball helmet to ride her little bike so we figured a big girl bike deserved an actual helmet, and now her little bike is being passed down to Boo so she needed a helmet too.

Boo was so happy and surprised that she got a present too! Sweet girl.

Now we’re ready for summer!
