Finger Foods

Since our little Boo has been so unimpressed with foods we decided to try a little bit of bread. Since then she has started eating a bit of oatmeal, but before that she would clamp her little mouth shut and not let anything in.

She is actually not too bad at picking up little bits of bread and getting them in her mouth. I love to watch her face when she is concentrating. So cute. :)

Thanks for all the mom-encouragement yesterday everyone! I think one of my favorite things about blogging/Facebook is that you get a lot of support. It's so easy to doubt yourself and not know if you are doing the right thing for your kids, but knowing that others are going through the same thing is such a blessing. I'm thankful for each one of you!!!

The other day we were at church and they started playing a song that I sing at home so K knew all the words. It was so precious to hear her singing along with the congregation. I love to listen to her sweet little voice.

I have another scripture video. This one was taken covertly b/c I knew she would probably stop singing if I told her so I just slipped the camera up on the arm rest. She noticed it there, but I don't think she knew it was recording. At the beginning of each song she says, "Mom. (pauses to wait for acknowledgement) Dad. (another pause) When I'm done you may clap for me." :)

6 Month Check Up

Boo had her six month check up with week. They said she looks good but that she hasn't gained enough weight. I have a theory on this. I think they should make a different chart for formula vs. breast fed babies. I know a lot of moms that stop nursing at 6 months, and another set who stop at 12 months. So it stands to reason that at those checkups the exclusively breast fed babies will appear to drop on the charts b/c all their peers have been taking in higher fat formulas. Just a theory, but both my girls have proven it true.

The doctor actually told me I need to "fatten her up". I'm not so sure I do. Exhibit A: double chin, triple thigh rolls, and even little wrist and ankle rolls. I need to fatten this kid up??

She dropped from the 85% to the 50% for weight which means she only gained 10 ounces since our visit in June, but again, I think it is b/c a lot of kids are done nursing by her age. Her measurements were:

Height: 27 1/4 inches - 95%

Weight: 15 lbs. 10 oz. - 50%

Head Circumference: 49 cm - 70%

We gave her the controversial shots. I hate that. Every time I go my mind wages war against itself. I go back and forth, back and forth, but it all boils down to the fact that until they offer a better option we are going to keep giving the shots. But we're not happy about it.

And now they have an oral one for rotovirus...did I mention that last time? It's a liquid that they squirt into their mouth and it gives them a "toxic" diaper for two weeks (meaning whoever changes the diaper and fails to disinfect can get the rotovirus). It also gives them some very...loose...stools.

We had a wedding reception/open house to go to on Saturday night and in the car on the way there she finally let loose. We pulled over to the side of the road, but the carnage was too great for a pack of wipes and glove box napkins so we kept going.

We made it to our destination and went into the house. "Hi, congratulations on your marriage! Can we use your bathroom? And your washing machine?" Yes, it was that bad. We had to wash the car seat cover and T had to take a hose to the plastic part b/c of the oozing mess. We probably added at least another 6 months to a year to the happy couples' future plans to have any children.

Visit

My grandparents, the girls' great-grandparents, have been here this week visiting. They drove all the way from Texas! Actually, they drove to Wisconsin and THEN drove here! Since we didn't head down this year they decided to come see us.

One day we went to one of the city's parks to look at the gorgeous flowers. They didn't disappoint us! I don't know why we don't go here more often, it's beautiful!

K loved looking at all the pretty flowers.

It was raining and a little chilly when we left our house, but it turned out to be a beautiful day. I should have dressed the girls up in cute matching outfits, but I didn't even think about how the flowers would make me want to take a hundred pictures. :)

The girls didn't really want to pose anyway so I guess it worked out for the best. :)

Yesterday was their last day so we had Sunday dinner at our house after church.

Amateur Photography

K loves to take pictures. She is always asking me for the camera. Her sister is her usual subject.

Usually I find a dozen or so that are similar to this one.

And sometimes she misses altogether.

But every now and then she'll get a pretty good one.

Maybe I need to look into some photography classes for our budding artist. :)

Sweet Potato Pie

So the wide, wonderful world of food is failing to make much of an impression on our youngest. She continues to give us this face...

...every time we give her rice cereal. She'll eat about a tablespoon, and not much more. We've also tried squash and sweet potatoes. They ranked right up there with the rice cereal.

"Really people, this is all you have to offer?!?"

"Surely there is something better out there than this slop."

I guess we're going to have to teach Boo to say,
"No thank you, I don't care for these." :)
