Moving has really thrown this little one for a loop. The big girls have done really well...great actually, but Peaches on the other hand...she was finally out of that terrible two stage of getting into everything and making messes at every turn and now she is right back into it. I think a lot of it is just learning all the boundaries of the new house...but most of it is from exhaustion.
The move and switch to a big girl bed was just too much to handle for her. She was so excited to sleep in the bunk beds like sisters that I thought she would do fine, but not so much. It took about a week to get her to stay in the bed at bedtime, but that didn't make her go to sleep. She would lay in bed at night for 1-2 hours before falling asleep, and then be the first one up every morning. She was getting about 2 hours less sleep than she was at our old house.
You'd think she would take longer naps to make up for that, but no...naptime was the same. Put her down at 1:30 like usual and she'd sit there rolling around for over an hour before finally falling asleep...only to sleep for 45 minutes to an hour (her usual is 1.5-3 hours). For a week I would lay down with her to try to get her to sleep, but that didn't seem to be helping either.
We finally started putting her in the pack and play in our room for naps (quieter and darker) which helped some days, but not others. Last week she actually started sleeping longer at night so now if she can just get the naps figured out I think she'll be good to go.
With her waking up so early and sharing a room the only way to keep her quiet in the mornings and not wake up everyone is to give her the iPad. She loves it of course, but I'm not real happy about the extra screen time. Buggy is our early riser so she gets up with her and gets her dressed before giving her the iPad. That's been her chore/job since we moved.
Because of the extreme exhaustion Peaches has been...well...extreme. It seems like she is either laughing hysterically or melting down completely. She has been so funny. The delirious "slap happy" personality makes for lots of laughs, but it's also really frustrating that she is so darn tired and won't sleep.
Here she is playing Legos in a pull up and her rubber boots. :P
Thankfully she loves her Legos, and will spend a long time on them. She set this up all by herself.
Since moving she's gotten into so many things. We've had two toothpaste incidents where she emptied entire tubes. This is her after finding Buggy's lipstick. She's ruined four chapsticks, and three small bottles of hand sanitizer.
The three big girls spent the night at Grandma and Grandpa's last weekend so we just had her at church. She did great but kept saying how tired she was. When it was time to go she wanted to go to Noni's and freaked out when she wasn't able to. She screamed and threw a monster fit. Lovely. We wanted to grab some lunch before heading home. She sat there for a good 10 minutes trying to hide and sniffling, before getting over it and being her usual pleasant self for the rest of the meal. I thought she would go home and crash for her nap since she was completely exhausted, but instead she rolled around in her bed for TWO hours (with multiple checks and being told to go to sleep) before I finally got her up. SO frustrating!
I'm praying hard that she makes peace with the move and settles down soon because I'm afraid she's going to be thrown for another loop in a few weeks when baby arrives. Ugh. Toddlerhood is hard!
