Baptism

Bug made another big decision this summer.  She decided to get baptized! 

We believe that while baptism is not necessary to be a Christian, it IS a way to show the world that you believe that Jesus is the Son of God and you have asked Him to forgive your sins and come into your heart. 

I think Romans 6:4 best explains it: We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

For us it is a symbolic way of aligning one’s life with the will of God.  It’s hard to know at what age a child truly understands this, but K heard the announcement of the upcoming baptism at church at the beginning of summer and asked if she could be baptized every week after that.

We talked to her about it extensively and wavered over the decision until finally agreeing that she understood what it meant and could do it. 

Here she is that Sunday before we left. :)

Our church doesn’t have a baptismal so once a year we go down to the lake place of one of the members and have lunch and do the baptism in the lake. 

Mama came with Noni and Papa so she could be there for the special day.

Usually about 1/3 of the church heads down there.  We had a pretty good crowd for the 6 people who got baptized.

Grandma and Grandpa also made the drive for the big day.  Bug was so happy to have them there!

I missed getting a family picture and a picture with Noni and Papa because my camera battery died. 

Peanut intently watched the proceedings…for a few minutes anyway. :)

Each candidate had to get up and give their testimony and say why they wanted to get baptized.  K told about asking Jesus to forgive her sins and come into her heart when she was 4. She said, “I feel like this is the right time for me to be baptized and to tell everyone that I love God”.

Another special thing our church does is allow a family member to do the baptizing.  Daddy was honored to do it.

I loved the big smile on her face when she came up. So sweet.
