I LOVE carpet! I know most people are all about hardwoords, but carpet is my favorite! I love how warm and cozy it makes a room feel. The basement was totally transformed!
The carpet was almost a big ordeal. We tried to go through Lowe's because that's who had the carpet we loved that we put in the basement of the other house. I contacted them shortly after we got home from Texas in August. It was almost a three week wait time just to get the carpet measure done. We waited for that and after they came he said they would give me a call that week.
Two weeks passed and I finally called them...multiple times, leaving messages. They finally got back to us and told us it would be 5-6 weeks before they could install our carpet!!! Which would have put us into October and moving all our stuff into an un-carpeted house that would later have to be emptied! I was less than thrilled.
T found a local place and I went over to see them after the back-to-school picnic. They were SUPER nice and friendly and were ready to do anything we needed to get carpet in by our September 24th move in date which was only a couple weeks away at the point. They came out and measured a few days later, ordered our carpet, and installed it the following week with four days to spare before move in. Start to finish it was 2 weeks and they were so awesome to work with! They also only cost a few hundred more than Lowe's. It wasn't the exact same carpet, but it is pretty darn close! We were so thankful for that answered prayer!
Here's the carpet in front of the bunk beds as well as a picture of the curtains Noni made! The first couple days Peaches would NOT stay in her bed...she was definitely our hardest transition from crib to bed, although who could blame her with a life-changing move thrown into the mix. The first day we had the curtains was the first time she went to bed without a peep. She has since gone back to rolling/playing/singing/banging around for at least an hour in her bed every nap and night time, but thankfully she stays in her bunk because of the curtains!
The main floor flooring turned into a bit of a disaster...design wise. There were holes in several places that had to be patched with left us with three different kinds of hardwood. Noni and Papa spent an entire Saturday sanding all the wood down for us, and while the Maple floor looked amazing, the Fir gummed up the rented machine. The Maple looked so pretty and ready to be finished, but apparently it is the hardest type of wood to stain and work with, and no matter what you do almost always fades to a yellow color which is what it looked like before they sanded it.
When all was said and done I decided to just paint all the floors gray so they would match. We bought some paint and I did the Fir and patching, but then Tyson read that the Maple needed an oil based so we bought a different paint for those not realizing that it was glossy instead of the matte like I'd already done. I painted the Maple anyway thinking I could do a second coat to make them match, but then we learned that you can't paint an latex based paint over an oil paint, and glossy latex wasn't in stock. At this point it was almost time to move in so we just left it alone and now we have a goofy, not even straight, line where it goes from glossy to matte between the living room and school room. Oh well. I'm sure one day we'll get it fixed. :P
Speaking of flooring...here is the tile I chose for the upstairs bathroom. I almost returned it because I thought it was navy and white when I ordered it and it was really black and white. I was also ready to chicken out over the bold pattern, but I'm so glad I didn't because I LOVE the way it turned out! I think it's my favorite floor in the entire house!
Still lots to do, but we're making progress! :)
