Well Peanut is officially a “big” girl! She is 16 months old and as of Sunday, is completely weaned which is always my definition of a “big girl”. She lasted the longest of the three of them. Bug was fully weaned at 15 months, and Boo at 14 months. Peanut doesn’t like drinking out of a cup, and that combined with the fact that she didn’t start walking till nearly 15 months, made me wait a little longer.
About a week before her 16 month-day her interest in nursing was waning. She did not want to take the time to be still, and was only lasting just a few minutes. She also cut her top canine teeth last week (so nursing was a bit painful for her) and is working on the bottom canines. They should be in any day. I decided it was time to be done and gave myself a week to get used to the fact. It’s always a little hard for me to stop nursing. I read one time that the minute they are born you start letting go bit by bit, and weaning just seems like an extra big “bit”! Even though it’s very necessary, it’s hard for a mommy to let go! But we’re done now and I’m very thankful that we had that special time together for the last 16 months.
Peanut is a full-on toddler now and she is pushing the boundaries for all she is worth! She is a big climber and into EVERYTHING. About a month ago she figured out how to climb up on the dining room chairs…
And then last week (in the same outfit as the picture above even though it was a different day) I walked in and found her like this.
“What?”
She has also decided that she is big enough to drop her morning nap already even though that happened a full two and half months before her two sisters went to one nap (at 18 months). I really tried to hang onto it, but if she fell asleep for even an hour in the morning she would roll around in her crib all afternoon, refusing to fall asleep.
Unfortunately, morning works best for K, S, and I for school, but now we have “The Destroyer” thrown in the mix and it is…distracting…to say the least.
Here is a picture of us during art class: K at the computer, me right beside her with S on my lap, and Peanut squirming and squishing her way into the small space at our feet where, if I’m not careful, the computer can be unplugged with one quick little tug (and boy is she quick!).
So she pretty much wanders around the house while we do school, pulling out all the toys, and getting into my drawers…she especially likes the oven mitt drawer.
Thankfully, the trade off is that she is now sleeping for a solid 3 hours in the afternoon (yay!), which is about the time I need to recover from trying to keep up with/clean up after her AND get all our school work done all morning. Whew. This is an exhausting stage for sure!
I didn’t mention that we found another “Elefante” when we were on Noni’s birthday trip, and he was even on sale, so for $6 we now have a spare lovey…very nice since she must have him at ALL times these days, but isn’t good about keeping track of him!
Such a personality on this kiddo! Although she definitely keeps me on my toes, this is a fun stage, and we are loving life with our busy, busy girl!
The only question is, “What will she get into next??”
In the morning the girls do my advent calendar and in the evening they do Daddy’s advent Lego calendar. Mine is more task oriented with something to do, and an occasional present or piece of candy thrown in the mix.
Last year, after Christmas, T and I were in Toys R Us for something and happened to glance through the clearance section where we found these dolls. They were $60 dolls that were 90% off so we were able to get all three for $6 each.
We set them up and then told the girls to come see.
I love the look on their faces.
Boo was especially taken with the Rapunzel doll, of course.
We got them out and set them up, but they are having a really hard time not playing with them! We keep having to remind them that they are a decoration and just for looking, but Rapunzel’s hair is already getting majorly tangled…although I guess that is in keeping with her character. Haha :)
They don’t have any legs, but their skirts are attached to miniature umbrellas that make them stand up. They are currently residing in the window seat where they get their capes removed and put back on several times a day. We'll see if they actually stay nice enough to display next year. :)
Last week we got to make sugar cookies with some of our fellow homeschool friends. It was the first time we’d been to their house so the girls were very excited!
And of course they always love decorating cookies!
Their little girl just loves Peanut and follows her around whenever we are at homeschool events and church. :)
They have one girl and two boys in their family so it was busy keeping 6 kids, ages 6 and under, on task. They did really well although I think the littlest ones got more sugar in them then we intended. :)
Boo did a really good job this year and was very particular about where each sprinkle should go.
Buggy’s were amazing! I loved all the detail and colors she put into her cookies. She lasted the longest of everyone, decorating to perfection.
Peanut just wanted to eat her cookie and then was mad that I wouldn’t let her have more. She is definitely asserting her independence these days!
Boo chose this one to eat after she was done.

They played a board game and then it was time to head home for lunch.
Stuff like this is definitely a perk of homeschool! What a fun morning!
