Happy Birthday Peanut!

On Friday we had Peanut’s official birthday party.  Instead of a theme I just did the colors orange and pink, with lots of polka dots!  Noni knew what the colors were and just happened to bring polka-dotted balloons!  We tried to get a family picture before the festivities began (ie: before the kids got dirty).  :)  Three squirmy girls make it hard to take a picture! :)

I ordered the cake from our little bakery. It turned out really cute! The gal forgot to make the small smash cake though so T ran to Safeway and bought one they had.  I saw (on Pinterest of course) an idea to scoop ice cream into cupcake holders before the party and then put the tray in the freezer so you don’t have to spend the time doing it during the party.  It worked like a charm!  Our centerpiece for the table was a jar of peanuts for our little Peanut. :)

We had a yummy dinner of pork chops, a green salad (from our garden), garlic bread, baked beans, southern style green beans (also from our garden) and potatoes, and a pink jello salad from Grandma.  That was the birthday girl’s favorite.  She loved it!

After dinner we set out the presents.

Once again she was more interested in the pool…here she is trying to make her way through the presents to get to it.

Daddy redirected her and helped her get going.

Then she finally started getting the hang of it.

“Really? For me?”

I used her birthday as an excuse to buy her a few outfits, socks, and hairbows.  Being the third girl she pretty much wears nothing but hand-me-downs, and I very rarely buy her clothes.

Noni put a bow in her comb-over. :)

Izzy thought that was funny. :) Grandma and Grandpa gave her a bath toy that squirts water.  She pulled the squirter off and started sucking on the other end…it did look just like a straw!

Boo was more excited than she was to open presents. :)

She got all sorts of great presents! And lots of birthday money too!  I think we’ll do something really exciting and put it in her college fund. Haha :)  She’s at an age that she won’t notice extra presents but she’ll be very thankful later if we save it for her!  We have all three of the girls signed up for one of those programs where you buy college credits at todays prices, and the best part is that they can use it nearly any private or public college in the country and even a few international schools accept it!  She’ll definitely appreciate that later. :)

After presents we sang Happy Birthday.

She loved it this time!  She even gave us claps afterwards.  “Good singing guys!”

We got a video, but I still can’t get the YouTube to connect so I’ll try to upload the videos on Blogger tomorrow.

Then it was time to smash some cake!  I realized that I was going to have a messy deck on my hands so I quickly taped up/down some plastic tablecloths for easy cleanup.  Which ended up being unnecessary because, other than my accidentally sticking her foot in the cake, she barely touched it.

She gave it a two handed pat…

And that was about it!

She tried shaking off the frosting, and when that didn’t work she licked it off.

But not before doing a little finger painting. :)

“Yep. Pretty good.”

And that was that.  She crawled over to the pool and when I tried to put her back she fussed so I didn’t push the issue.  Cleanest smash cake ever!

Then it was time for the rest of us to enjoy some cake.  Here’s a close up.

And the inside…the top layer was white with raspberry filling and the bottom was chocolate with Bavarian cream.

I didn’t manage to get a picture with Grandma and Grandpa, but here’s Noni, Papa, and the girls.  Thanks for coming to help us celebrate everybody!

Happy Birthday Peanut!

Celebrating

Well this week did not exactly go as planned.  We had a big agenda: going shopping for Peanut’s birthday presents and BBQ food, last summer bible study morning, going to see a movie with our friends, and going to the water park on Peanut’s birthday. Instead Bug and Boo spent a miserable week being sick.  It was a bizarre sickness in that the only symptoms were a high fever and sleeping. 

Boo started it on Monday.  By Tuesday they were both sick.  Boo was improving by Wednesday, but it was Buggy’s worst day, and by Thursday Boo was 95% while Bug was still in the throes of it.  Finally yesterday Boo was 100% and Buggy had a low grade fever, but was feeling much better.  I don’t know what it was or why it hit Bug the hardest.  Thankfully Peanut didn’t get it…I’m still hoping she doesn’t.  Buggy threw up a couple of times, but it was just due to her high gag reflex.  The only time she threw up was when I was trying to give her medicine…which could be why it lasted longer for her.  She couldn’t keep anything down. 

I calculated and she was awake for only four hours on Wednesday!  That is crazy for our active girl!  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday she would wake up at the normal time, come downstairs, climb into our bed (still in the living room) and fall back to sleep until 11-12, be awake until Peanut’s nap at 2 and then fall back asleep and sleep till 5-6, wake up for a few hours and go right back to sleep at 8:30 for a full 12 hours.  So weird.

She literally laid around ALL week.  Her bed, our bed, couch, Boo’s floor, repeat.  They got to watch extra TV and have TONS of books read to them.  Poor babies.  Boo’s fever got up to 103.6 at one point and Buggy’s highest was 104.3!  Scary.  Of course we were on the phone with nurses, and T was emailing back and forth with their doctor (perk of working at hospital!) but we never took them in since they stayed within the “safe” parameters of the doctor’s warning signs to look for.

So Peanut’s birthday didn’t quite go according to plan, but we still tried to celebrate her.  She woke up happy as a clam although a bit bewildered when we all sang happy birthday to her. :)

She nursed and then had some yogurt, cheerios, and blueberries (one of her new favorites).

Daddy and Papa both had board meetings (T for work, Papa for church) so Noni and I did a small celebration in the backyard.

You can see poor Buggy on the side of this picture.  We carried her outside for some fresh air.

She perked up a little so I think it was good for her.  Her appetite still hasn’t returned, but thankfully she’s eating now.  From Tuesday morning to Thursday at lunch the entire contents of her stomach was three crackers, a nibble of toast, half an apple slice, and tons of water.  That was probably the only thing that kept me from taking her in…she was drinking lots of water.

Peanut wasn’t too interested in her presents at first, but we finally helped her get the hang of it.

“Uh. Why are you opening my present?” :)

She kept trying to head for the pool so we had to corral her.

Could she be any sweeter??

Noni and Papa had arrived at about two, so Boo and I rushed into Walmart to get groceries and pick out a few presents.  Boo chose a singing tea set, and it was a big hit!  I texted Bug some pictures (through Noni) and she picked out a Little People Belle and the Beast.

I didn’t want to heat up the house so I let Boo pick out some mini cupcakes.  We sang Happy Birthday and then I blew out the candle.  I didn’t realize until I was editing these pictures that Bug and Boo were helping me blow. :)

She didn’t know what to do with it at first.

Then quick as lightening she grabbed the whole thing and shoved it in her mouth!

I think she thought I was going to take it away from her.  She looks at me like this when she has something she shouldn’t.

She finally realized it was okay.  “Mmm. Tasty!”

“Oh yeah. That’s the good stuff.”

“They’ve been holding out on me!”

After her cake I stripped her down and finally let her make her way over to the pool.

Where she got mostly clean. :)

We had her real party last night.  I need to get Noni’s pictures and then I’ll get a post together for Monday.
