Our second concrete pour was a bit of a disaster. They were supposed to come at 2:30 so Grandpa and our friend J arrived at 2 and we all got ready. We waited. And waited. T called the company and they said they were running behind and would be there in about 45 minutes so we waited. And waited some more. He called again and they said about an hour.
Finally at 4:45 they arrived. The guy drove up and said, "Oh man, I was really hoping it wasn't walls." Because they take a LOT longer. 15 feet into the pour the back wall blew out and we had to scramble. We got it under control and grabbed a saw and some 2x4's and Grandpa worked like crazy reinforcing the footings and trying to stay ahead of us. It wasn't actually the wall that blew out, it was the footings from the first pour that you secure the walls to. Grandpa had been the finishing man before the blow out but since he couldn't do that Peanut quickly got recruited.
T was pulling concrete down the chute and into the hopper. Boo was punching it down through the hopper, and J and I were spreading it. It was HARD work and we were all exhausted and super sore by the end.
Peanut did an amazing job with the finishing work! Especially considering she'd never done it before and got about a 30 second lesson in what to do. She was SO tired and cold and wanted to quit multiple times, but she pushed through and hung in there until the end. It was NOT easy!
