We have fish! Or to be more accurate, Peanut has fish, and it was quite the ordeal! Who knew getting fish would be so hard! We had bought her a fish tank for her birthday. We got it all set up and filled it with water, using "AquaSafe" that helps the balance of all the...nutrients, or whatever it is fish need, and then we let it sit for 48 hours (the instructions said at least 24). Then we went to Petco, talked to a worker there and came home with four GloFish. She got a purple, green (looks yellow), red, and blue. We took them home, let their bag float in the water for the recommended 15 minutes, and then released them.

They stayed together in a clump, but seemed happy. They swam all over and checked things out.

Peanut drew some pictures for them. :)

I was looking up info on how often to change the water and noticed lots of other people Googling "why did my GloFish die?" and "why can't I keep GloFish alive?" So I warned Peanut that they might not live. Thankfully she was prepared for that option because the next morning they were all dead. :{

Who knew that you could exchange dead fish? I sure didn't, but I was thankful that you could because they were $10 each. We took them back to Petco the next day (an hour each way). This time we talked with a manager who explained that we didn't have a big enough tank for 4 fish. Even though it is a 5 gallon tank when you put the castle and plants in there the water capacity is about a 2 gallon tank which means you should only have one or two fish otherwise there isn't enough oxygen to go around. We got our water tested and they said it was fine.

He said if we were only going to get one fish a Betta fish was hardier and easier to keep alive so we came home with a bright blue Betta fish that she named Shimmer. Apparently I forgot to get a picture of him. He lived for three days and then sunk to the bottom of the tank. :( We did learn that Betta fish have to get air like dolphins so they go up to the top every so often for a breath.

The next trip to Petco we talked to the "Aquatics Specialist" who told us about something called New Tank Syndrome where your water can test fine, but it just doesn't have to proper bacteria needed for fish to survive. He said you should let a new tank sit for 30 days before adding your fish. So I actually purchased a bottle of live bacteria :P and followed the directions. A full dose, let the tank sit for 6 days, a half dose, let the tank sit for 6 days, and then you can introduce fish.

We also purchased a heater because even though the Petco people said it wasn't necessary, everything I read on the Internet said you need a heater for tropical fish. Unfortunately I forgot to get the heater before we were ready for new fish so that added another few days that Peanut had to wait, but we were FINALLY ready for our third try so a fourth trip to Petco and we came home with two GloFish, a red and green (yellow) named Fire and Moon.

It's been a couple of weeks and they seem happy so maybe we finally got it figure out! Phew. Who knew it was so hard to buy fish!?

Big Girl Bed!

I took these pictures on Lou's last day of being in the crib. She says, "Don't see me!" and hides, and then says, "Peek-a-boo!" and pops out. :)

Noni took her and Peaches to spend the night at her house because when I painted the crib it left a couple spots that would have to be painted when we converted it to a toddler bed. It took four coats, but it wasn't hard. They were doing some painting of their own. :)

Lou is getting used to being away from Mommy every now and then, but she is still really clingy for a few days when she comes back.

They did some "school" the next morning and then Noni brought them home.

This is first time in the fourteen and half years we've had this bed that we've converted it! It seems strange not to have another baby coming up, but also kind of nice to be moving past that stage.

She was super excited about her big girl bed!

Recital - Take 2!

Noni decided to have another showing of the recital in order for the girls to get more practice and to be able to invite Grandma and Grandpa. Some other sweet friends came too. :)

Their skit with Peanut's songs was so cute! Wonderful job! Lou got embarrassed halfway through and wouldn't participate anymore, but she did great for the first part!

I LOVED how Bandit walked across the set at the beginning like a real old western. Haha!!

Sweet friends! This was the couple that directed the Sound of Music when the big girls were in it years ago.

Grandpa went off to chat with people but we got a picture with Grandma. :)

County Fair!

The girls love the county fair! This year Bug, Boo, Peanut, and I volunteered for a four hour shift at the Awana booth. I thought that would feel so long, but it actually wasn't that bad. It was pretty quiet and we didn't talk to very many people, but we did give away several Wordless Worms and sing the song two times. :)

At the end of our shift Daddy brought the little two up and we all explored the fair together. They loved all the animals!

Boo's friend F had her bunny entered and got it out to let the girls pet it.

Our friends entered five of their chickens. Peaches and Lou wanted a picture with them, but then Lou changed her mind and refused to smile. :P

Lou was so excited whenever any of the animals paid attention to her!

They must choose the friendliest animals to bring because they were all very nice!

The girls were able to feed the horses some hay.

Peaches was SOO happy when they ate off her hand!

We watched a couple of acrobats, washed our hands really good, and then got some dinner. Lou was WOUND up and being SO silly! She started doing Chinese fire drills around the table while we were waiting for our food. Lol.

At least the rest were being calm. Haha.

We also let the girls get balloon animals. Bug got a dinosaur, Boo got a bear holding onto a tree, Peanut got a parrot that actually clung to the shoulder of her shirt, and Peaches and Lou got unicorns!

We got ice cream and elephant ears and headed over to the rodeo. It had already started and the grand stands and bleachers were packed (they said it was their biggest crowd ever at the fair) so we watched from behind where the competitors entered. We got to see several people we knew participate in their events.

I took the little ones home and Daddy and the big girls stayed for the whole rodeo which lasted until ten. Another wonderful year of the county fair in the books!
