Apparently it is a thing to have your last night of Volleyball be parents night and the parents have to play against the kids. The coach said it was one of the highlights of her season because her mom was so bad, but tried hard anyway. Some other friends also had funny stories about their parents playing.

Bug's night was first.

I was trying to remember the last time I played...I think it was 20 years ago for like 5 minutes with some friends. :P I made a few silly errors but I don't think I embarrassed her too badly. Haha. My friend let her husband play and she took pictures of us. Apparently I'm about to kick the ball here?! Haha!

I was really impressed with how well Bug did! One of my Volleyball playing friends had told me she thought Bug was a natural and it appears so because she only had three practices (missed the first three for Covid), but was doing really well!

I was impressed with her overhand serve! I can only do underhand.

Our friend J and Daddy also played too, and I realized that men are much better at volleyball! They just have some hard-wired natural reflexes that help them hit the ball no matter where it is coming from or landing.

At one point the ball was coming in hot and one of the other dad's managed to keep it from hitting the ground but it just kind of bobbled over to me. J's back was to me and since the ball was only three feet off the ground I'm sure he thought it was out of play, but somehow I managed to pop it back up. Since his back was to me I thought it was going to drop, but with just the slightest turn of his head he somehow realized it was still going, reached behind himself and flipped it back into the air and over the net! All in about 1.2 seconds!

We also had some other really funny moments. One girl hit the ball and it swished into the opposite basketball net!

And I think it was Bug that hit the ball so high it glided up and landed on top of one of the hanging lights! It rolled around for a few seconds and we thought it was going to get stuck up there, but it finally dropped off.

It was a really fun night!

Thankfully Noni was able to watch the other girls that night, and the next night when it was Peanut's turn.

Bug came with us and she, Daddy, and I all played so this was the only picture I got. Peanut is right in the middle of the picture and Bug is serving on the other side. It wasn't as competitive playing with the younger kids, but we had fun watching Peanut's improvement in volleyball as well. As soon as she gets a little height on her I think she could be a really good player!

Volleyball was more about the social aspect for her. Her friend's mom was the assistant coach so she would pick them up and drive them home from every practice and the girls had way more fun riding in the car than playing volleyball. :) Miss S also stopped and got them ice cream on the way home multiple times so she is now the favorite mom, haha! We are thankful for these sweet friends and the chance to try a new sport!

Spring Sports!

We were very thankful that the girls were able to do Spring sports this year! After a year of nothing it was fun to be back into some organized sports and they were all able to try out something new!

Peanut and Bug both chose to do Volleyball with a local recreation center. Bug had a two hour practice once a week and Peanut had a one hour practice twice a week. Unfortunately because of Covid we missed half of the 6 week season, but they still had fun and learned some new skills.

We did carpooling so I only took Peanut to a couple practices.

Peanut was actually not quite old enough to be in the program...it was 9 and up, but they let her in since she is only a few months away from being 9. She was definitely the smallest on the team, but she did great and tried hard!

And mostly she just had a lot of fun with her friends! :)

Boo got to try Y-Ball this year! She has never been able to do it before because the games are always on Awana night and we have a family policy of church before sports. Covid helped that out though because the season got pushed back so that she could make 3 of the 6 games after Awana was over. Technically she would have missed them anyway because of our Covid quarantine.

I didn't get to go to any of her 3 games because they had a one spectator per player rule for Covid. Daddy took her to her games and sent me a few pictures. She had one game at 6:30 the first week and they got home around 9, but the second week they had a double header and played at 6:30 and 7:30 so they didn't get home til 10!

Everyone was really impressed with how well Boo did! These girls have been playing together for years and she had only had one brief experience with basketball last winter. She was noticeably behind in ability when she first started practicing with them, but then Daddy started working with her at home and she was in the garage dribbling or outside shooting hoops almost every day all Spring and in no time at all she was right up there with most of the other girls! We were so proud of how hard she worked!

We are thankful that she got to be part of the season and we hope she continues to play!

Pierced Ears!

Boo got her ears pierced! She didn't want to last year when she turned ten and then this year she decided she was ready but we wanted wait until after her basketball season was over. Two days after her last game we headed to the mall!

She had an orthodontist appointment that day, and the little ones had been snotty so I didn't want to drop them off at Noni's. Bug stayed with the others in the car and watched a movie on the DVD players while they waited. It was a quick appointment and I don't think they even noticed we were gone.

Boo's piercing was very uneventful. She barely flinched and said, "Oh. That barely hurt at all."

She picked these pretty crystal crosses.

Afterwards the girls shopped...for probably half and hour but it felt like 20. :P

They wanted everything in sight! I told them they could pick one thing...which Lou took to mean everything she could possibly carry!

She was so happy! And I spent the entire time trailing after her putting back everything she was pulling from the shelves. :P

Peaches was getting frustrated at one point and said, "Ugh! Why do you keep saying no I can't have anything?" and I told her, "Because you've asked me for at least $1,000 worth of stuff!" :P

But they finally each settled on their items and we came home with the pierced ears we went for!

Very pretty on this grown up girl!

Leftover Thursday

Lou has figured out how to turn the outside faucets on so I just have to count on having her dripping wet and/or muddy every time I let her out to play.
