Happy Birthday Daddy!

For T's birthday we spontaneously decided to take a night away. Noni took all four girls and a bottle and stayed at our house, so nice! And we took a little road trip! We found out that Jim Gaffigan was playing in Yakima and decided to go for it!

I fed the baby at noon and when Noni arrived we grabbed a road soda and headed out. It was a gorgeous sunny day and perfect for a drive! We had a nice quiet trip. :) We arrived and checked into our hotel. It was funny because we had just been playing the Farming Game for several days. The game was created in Washington and has names of places that are all in Washington. The Yakima river is one of the places on the game...

And our hotel room was right on the Yakima river! I took a picture to show the girls.

We did some shopping and were going to eat out at a nice restaurant, but there was a long wait on a Saturday night. We ended up going to Bruchi's and the sandwiches were SO good. Great compromise and it was a lot cheaper too. Haha!

We headed to the show after dinner, and got there pretty early. There wasn't much room to walk around, but in hindsight we should have attempted it. We had gotten our tickets at the last minute so we were in the bleacher seats and we were hurting by the time the show was over! Haha!

The show was SOO funny! I don't think I have ever laughed for an hour straight before. Jim Gaffigan is great comedian and keeps all his jokes really clean. It was definitely worth the road trip to see him!

We headed home the next day and stopped at the house to get Noni's car (she had to take ours to fit all the kids in) and bake T's birthday apple crisp. Then we drove to Noni and Papa's to pick up the kids. 

Mama gave T his gift...a heat gun and a fish tape he was wanting.

He was also wanting a circular saw so we headed to town and he used some of his old gift cards to get one. Then he chose Qdoba for dinner.

Peaches was so funny. She loves black beans! I'd say black beans, green beans, peas, and Cheerios are her top four favorite foods. We ordered her a side of them and she also got bits of tortilla. She is still in that whole-fist-in-the-mouth-when-eating phase.

At home I rinse her black beans so she doesn't make a mess. Here: no such luck. She soon had a bean beard.

"Hmm...do I detect a touch of cilantro?"

"Oh yeah, that's the good stuff."

 

Let me tell you that bean beard was NOT easy to get off! Haha!

We headed home and had just enough time for apple crisp and ice cream, and presents.

Aunt Karen sent an awesome Mariners mug! It's one of those that keeps the drinks cool (or hot) for hours and hours. Perfect for him to take to work!

 

Noni and Papa got him a baseball game for his PS4. He also got some birthday money. The girls picked out the "Corner Cafe" Lego set and they built it the next evening.

  

I got him a Micro Jig set he'd been wanting. 

I think it was a pretty successful weekend! Mommy and Daddy had a nice, quiet night away and then we had a fun evening with our little monkeys when we got back. Thanks again for watching the girls so we could go Noni!

Grand Prix

One of the girls' favorite nights of the year...AWANA Grand Prix!  We had gone the night before to help set up so they had already seen the track and were excited!

The Cubbies always go first. They sat down by the race track and for each race three were chosen to bring their car up. They let each child race several times and then let the winners of those heats race each other until it is down to a final three. 

 

The big kids lined up on the other side of the race flags to get a good view.

 

This picture is blurry but you can still see the excitement on Peanut's face.

 

She would not take this lid out of her mouth long enough to smile. :P

Sparkies were up next.

They love running their special car up to the race master.

 

I was working in the kitchen so Boo came to show me her participation ribbon.

TnT was the third round of the night. Go Buggy go!

 

I thought she did a great job on her car! I knew T wouldn't have time to cut one out for her so I bought a pre-cut car and let her paint it. She did "My heart's on fire for God" and painted a heart with flames coming out of it. We glued one of her Lego girls in the driver's seat and a steering wheel.

 

I thought she did a great job!

Daddy made his car the night before the race. He went for a screwdriver. Pretty cute. :)

I think this was the first year no one in our family has one any Grand ribbons! I think it was actually really good for them though. They win a lot of stuff and it was a good lesson to not be the "top dog" for once. They were pretty bummed. I tried hard to emphasize how to be a good loser and be happy for others who did win. Not sure if it stuck, but I think it was a step in the right direction. :)

Anniversary and Birthday Celebrations

Grandma and Grandpa celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in February! Unfortunately they were both sick and unable to truly celebrate so when we headed to Idaho for Waylon's birthday party we went early and met everyone for lunch at a Mexican food restarurant. The three families went together and got them a large canvas print of the photo we took together at Christmas. The box was so big it covered Grandma up when she opened it! Haha!

After lunch we headed to Waylon's house to celebrate his 7th birthday! It's hard to believe he and Boo are 7 already. Seems like just the other day Auntie Nae and I were pregnant with them. 

He had a Lego party!

So of course we bought him Legos!

He must have liked them because he opened them up right away and started building. :)

Boo and Peanut liked the marshmallow mini figure heads on a stick!

Kenzie passed out about halfway through the party and was still asleep like this when we left even though there were kids running all over and lots of noise!

 

This one should have been sleeping but was happy to crawl around playing with whatever she could find...like wrapping paper. :)

I thought Bug had made it through the sickness without needing the antibiotics...she and T were the only ones who managed to do that. But at the party she said her ear started hurting. It was really bothering her by that afternoon. Shortly after we left Waylon's party they looked like this...

We weren't going to make it home in time to pick up the prescription at the pharmacy so we called and paid for it over the phone and some friends from church went down and picked it up for us and left it at our house. SO nice! I love how small town neighbors take care of each other! We managed to make it through the rest of the evening with Ibuprofen and gave her the first dose of amoxicillian that night when we got home. 

We had a busy day...on the way home we dropped Grandma and Grandpa off at their house and then headed to some friends' house for dinner. 

 

 The kids played hard and had a great time and we had fun catching up with them. We drove about 4.5 hours in total that day! Busy, but lots of fun!
